Lego has become the mother of the Star Wars franchise games. We had our hands full of deceptions with titles associated with light sabers. The Force Unleashed 2 being the nearest one…However here comes LEGO to save the day once again, will the force be with him?? Let’s find out! Jump in!

Return to Top GRAPHICS & SOUND:

Remember when you first saw the trilogy of the Lords of the Rings?? Well I’m a big nerd, so yeah I do remember that day. The thing is, every time a new movie was released you went to the theater and you would see the story develop but the filming techniques and graphic effects didn’t changed from one movie to the other… Well here’s the thing about LEGO games, they use the same resources OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN, so basically you’ll be seeing the same graphics and the same sound effects that they’ve used in every other LEGO Star Wars game. But this doesn’t mean it’s something bad, after all the game works great in this particular platform like it always did. It’s a common thing among current games… you feel you’re buying expansions rather than sequels, they’re not bad, at least, not always but they do let you feeling a little bit scammed…

Return to Top STORY:

The story unfolds after the events of Episode 2 but BEFORE Episode 3 itself. We have a younger Anakin Skywalker who has taken an apprentice (Ahsoka Tano) and the Clone soldiers are EVERYWHERE. And let me make a remark here…The clone soldiers rules. I say this as a Star Wars fan. The fact that they could put life into every clone and make them struggle to find uniqueness appears to me as something AWESOME. Some of the oldest Star Wars fans didn’t really like that but the truth is, it gives the story much more life. Besides characters like Cody or Rex are just GREAT, they steal the episode many many times and they deserve it. The game aesthetic aspect comes from the TV series “The Clone Wars” so if you watch the show you’ll be reliving some of your dearest episodes in the tiny screen of your Nintendo DS (or 3DS if you’re lucky enough!). The game starts with AMBUSH and it goes down from there. You’ll be playing with a wide array of characters including Obi Wan Kenobi, the a fore mentioned Ahsoka, Anakin, Commander Cody, Rex and fighting Assajj Ventress along with many other bad guys. That’s of course not counting the ENDLESS hordes of robots that will fall upon your every light saber swing.

Aren't they cute?

Return to Top GAMEPLAY:

Pretty much like in the Graphics & Sound section there’s not a lot to brag about, it’s just the same old mechanics with a few twists. Every unit has some special tricks to do that will help you pass over one obstacle or the other( although sometimes these obstacles are just way too obvious and you’ll be left wondering if you should play this game or maybe it was made for your little nephew)… However the game is fun, it’s a ton of fun, the cutscenes are really funny and they all add up to the illusion of a more playful Star Wars universe. If you’re a Star Wars fan like myself and you wish to initiate your kids in this religion (if you let me) the LEGO star wars games along with the Star Wars The Clone Wars franchise are perhaps the best way to go. The gameplay is simplistic and plain, but for a big sector of the public using an NDS is just fine.

Return to Top OVERALL SCORE:

7 (Good!)

A game that follows every step left over the years by the other LEGO games, and it does it like it should. A game that’s sometimes a little too simple or just plain, but it’s still great for the recommended ages.
