Learning formations is the key to becoming one of the best FIFA 11 players out there. Formations are like weapons in FIFA 11, learning to use them is easy; it’s just the mastering part that is hard.
The standard formation, or the 4 – 1 – 2 – 1 – 2 (1), is one of the best defensive plays out there and is generally the most used. Make sure that there is a strong connection between the midfield and the defense. The danger in this is that you almost always have to play through the center field, and that your offense stops at the 18th yard.
Default formation, or 4 – 3 – 3, is a good formation for offense. You will always have the option to pass to the wings so make sure you do when needed. Make sure you don’t keep passing to the wings though, as this would lead you to become more predictable. Try varying your passing and your handling a bit. Mix up a few passes and crosses at you’ll be fine.
A Custom 4 – 1 – 2 – 3 is a suggested formation. This formation is almost the same as the standard formation, but it keeps the holes protected. To effectively use this formation, you should be able to properly switch between your players on the fly when needed. Also, you should learn to actually break formation in order to make a better one. Switching defenders, as well as switching positions is also equally important. Always try to mix everything up so that you will be less predictable. Well worth the try.
