Portal 2 Chapter 8: The Itch [Guide]

Well now we know you and GLaDOS Potato are dealing with the mastermind known as Wheatley. You will come to find out his ideas for what makes a test chamber is actually very similar to GLaDOS’s.

Return to Top Test Chamber 1

As you start in the next room you will see that Wheatley is having a hard time replacing you as he tries to direct the cubes on what to do, it is not going well. GLaDOS has a plan up ahead that doesn’t really work out which puts you in the first test chamber.

As you can see Wheatley doesnt really have a mind for these tests as this one is very simple. In fact go a head and try it without my help, go a head I’ll wait… If you are having trouble I guess I will go ahead and do my job. Hit the switch to drop the cube onto the switch. Now use the Portal gun to get to the other side. Wheatley will actually make you do it twice since he is all out of ideas for tests.

After the second time he will let you into the lift to chamber 2.

Return to Top Test Chamber 2

Now we not only have a real test in chamber 2 but we have a new element to introduce. The Excursion Funnel which is the blue tube of energy, will anything in it along it’s path. Unlike the light bridge this can move you up and down as well.

You will notice that the button is on the ceiling. Jump in the stream and float to the second level. Here you will find a box with legs. Fire a blue portal at the end of the stream and an orange portal on the wall close to the cube. Grab the cube.

Now put an orange portal below the button where the checkered area is on the first level and put the cube inside the stream. This will open the exit so hop in the stream and out to the exit.

Return to Top Test Chamber 3

In this chamber you will notice there is an energy stream right ahead at the bottom in the bottomless pit, (Wheatey loves bottomless pits). Go ahead and jump in the stream it will dead end at the wall. Look to the right at the wall up above you, put a blue portal in the uper right corner and turn and put an orange portal on the wall you are up against.

As you ride this stream fire another blue portal at the wall to your left. Ride the funnels up to where the switch is. Hit the switch to release the cube, use the funnels to bring it to you. Once it is close enough grab it and place it on the switch to move on out the exit.

Return to Top Test Chamber 4

As you enter the next chamber put a blue portal at the end of the stream and an orange one on the wall to the right of the exit. Ride the stream over to where the switch is. Before you activate the switch though place an orange portal on the left wall so it will catch the falling cube. Go ahead and hit the switch and use the streams to bring the cube to you.

After you have the cube notice the blue target on the left far wall. Place an orange portal next to it, then while holding the cube step on the faith plate. Ride the funnel till you can drop down on the other side. Fire an orange portal on the floor so the stream will take you up to where the exit is. As you reach the top place an orange portal on the wall facing the button. Slip out but leave the cube so it can open the door for you and get you to the next chamber.

Return to Top Test Chamber 5

In this next chamber you have to look out for the turret on the other side of the room behind the glass. To put him away place a blue portal at the end of the funnel and an orange one on the wall so the stream will carry the turret off the ledge, fire an orange portal anywhere so it will release the turret. There is a button that will reverse the flow of the stream. Use this button to bring the cube to you.

After you have the cube put it on the button making sure it wont hop off with its legs. Now ride the stream to the other side. Now use your portals to get the cube off the button setting the glow back to normal. Now put an orange portal on the ground so you can get up to the exit.

Return to Top Test Chamber 6

Start this chamber off by by putting a blue portal on the dead end of the tunnel, and put an orange portal on the center platform in front of you. Use the Faith Plate to launch yourself into the stream and ride it all the way to the ceiling. Once you have reached the top find the angled wall panel and place a blue portal on it and allow yourself to fall through.

After you land throw a blue portal back in the stream and hit the switch. A cube will bounce off the Faith Plate and into the stream. Now do the same thing to the cube that you did to get it to you. Catch the cube and place it on the exit to move on to the next chamber.

Return to Top Test Chamber 7

In chamber 7 you will start by firing a blue portal at the bridge on the right and another on the wall in front of the Emancipation Grill. This make some trial and error since the bridge has to stop the cube once it goes flying because if it hits the grill it will disintegrate. If your lucky the cube will not fall in the pit, if not you will have to be quick and portal down there and get it quick to avoid the turrets. Do not be afraid to fire some more to get the cube in a safe location. If it is in the pit but up against the wall you can get it pretty easy without turret trouble.

Shoot an orange portal at the wall facing the catwalk above and step on the plat with the cube. What your going for is the bridge needs to stop your flight so you land on the catwalk. Go around the grill and fire an orange portal so it blocks the turrets. Now go behind the grill and place it on the button. Portal back up and do the catwalk move again to get to the exit.

Return to Top Test Chamber 11

For some reason we just skip to 11 here. Take it up with Wheatley, anyway at the start of chamber eleven place a blue portal at the bottom of the stream and an orange portal on the empty panel on the floor between the angled panel and the Faith Plate. Ride the stream to the ceiling and once you hit the top shoot a blue portal on the angled wall and fall through. Now grab the cube and head over to the laser to block it with the cube. Now the stream power has been cut off so portal back to the start. Above the beam is another angled wall, put a blue portal on it and an orange one one the other angled wall. go through the orange portal so you are launched to the Redirection Cube. Grab the cube and head back to the laser beam. Switch out the two cubes and put a blue portal on the wall, aim the laser at it with the cube. Shoot an orange portal at the far wall near the lifts and step through with your legged cube. The reciever should be here.

take the cube with legs and put it on the empty floor panel. Now go work your portals and lasers so the receiver is hit. The one lift will lower so go stand on it. Shoot your portals so the stream is broke and the platform will rise. Next you will want to arrange the portals so the stream is activated again.

Aim the portals so the cube will hit the button on the ceiling and the second lift will lower. Step on lift two and get the cube off the button to raise this platform to the exit.

Return to Top Test Chamber 12

Once you enter this chamber notice the red energy field on the far side. Next to it are two laser receivers. The bottom one controls the movement of the platform and the top one turns the energy field on and off. Fire a blue portal at the laser beam near you and the orange portal so the laser will hit the lower receiver. Once the platform reaches the far left of the room portal over to it. Now move your portals so that the platform moves again. Stand on the far side so you can cut the movement when the platform is in the middle of the energy field.

Now arrange the lasers to cut off the the field so you can get to the other side of the platform. Now get the platform moving again and hop off once you reach the other side. Allow the platform to go back to the other side and hit the switch, if its timed right a redirection cube will drop down on it. Portal Back onto the platform so that you and the cube are on the platform. Get the platform on the left of the energy field, left as in if you are facing towards the exit door. Use portals to get the laser to hit the Redirection Cube on the platform and to the receiver by the exit door. Portal back to the exit and fix an portals you may need to from getting over to get out the exit.

Return to Top Test Chamber 15

Hit the switch nearby to cause the cube to fall. It will be out of reach on the panels it will fall on. Place a blue portal on the stream and an orange one on the wall facing the cube. This will bring the cube to you. Now with your portal gun get the cube inside the glass room on the button.

Now with the orange gel flowing go back to the stream button. Use the stream to catch the orange gel, this will coat the runway so you can fly over. Go back and get the cube out of the glass box and place it on the funnel control button and aim the stream tot he other side of the testing area. Run off the ramp and ride the stream to the other side of the testing area. Land on the catwalk and and head down the path.

Keep following it until you step through the Emancipation Grill. This will erase your portals so you will have to portal back to the main area. Go back to the ramp and put a portal on the wall behind the large emancipation grill. The stream should now be flowing to the exit door so off the ramp again and into the stream.

Return to Top Test Chamber 16

Once you get to the test area. If you notice there are turrets behind some glass and the Switch on the other side of the room below a Gel dispenser. Portal over to that side of the room. Now shoot a Blue Portal at the Stream, and an Orange Portal at the wall near you so that the stream is traveling towards the entrance of the area. Hit the switch to get the Blue Gel flowing, then cut the stream so that there’s Blue Gel coating the edge near you. Set the strea, up to travel to the entrance, hit the switch and jump into the stream.

Now you should be moving with the gel right behind you. Once you land step on the button to reverse the direction of the stream taking the gel back. Now face where the turrets are, there is wall paneling above them put an orange portal on the wall then step on the button. The gel should now be moving over the turrets. Cut the stream so the turrets will be coated with gel and bouncing them around till the are done.

Now go behind the glass and hit the hit the switch here which will angle a wall near you upwards. Keep the blue portal in the stream and put an orange portal on the floor in front of the panel, this will cause the stream to shoot up to the ceiling. Ride the stream up, then shoot a Blue Portal on the panel. You should now fall through the Orange one and be launched from the panel, onto the Blue Gel where the turrets were, and land in front of the exit and out of this long chapter.
