Angry Birds on console
A new way to get your addiction satisfied
Are you addicted to Angry Birds? Rumor has it that the mobile game has plans to suck you in on your console unit as well. No specific release or information on any possible extra features yet but we do have hints that the game will be downloadable on the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii.
This isn’t the first time that a game which began on mobile devices found its way to traditional consoles, Flight Control, for example, began on the iPhone and is now available on the PS3. The developers of Doodle Jump are also considering releasing the game on consoles. Typically we see the trend moving in the opposite direction, from console to mobile, I’m pleased to see developers of mobile games considering other platforms.
Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Online Edition
Joining XBLA & PSN
It won’t be long before Street Fighter3: Third Strike Online Edition will be available on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade according to the developer yesterday at Comic-Con.
The PSN will receive the game on August 23rd and the following day Xbox Live Arcade will receive the game. You will be able to upload your memorable fights directly to YouTube and practice in the game’s Trial mode.
Darkness the movie
Big Hollywood style production
Comic-Con 2011 has been giving us a bunch of fun information since it began yesterday. The folks at The Darkness 2 panel revealed that there is a new feature film in the works focusing on The Darkness games. Mandeville Films will be producing the movie which has been reported as a “full-blown, true Hollywood movie.” Marc Silvestri, creator of Darkness, also stated that “This will not be a watered down version of The Darkness.” No idea yet when we can head to the theater to see the movie but I’m pretty sure I’ll be in line when it does come out.
Kingdoms of Amalur
Single player RPG release info
Todd MacFarlane, the art director for Kingdoms of Amalur, reported at Comic-Con that the game is expected to be released early next year, they hope for February.
The game is set at a time when magic is just starting to emerge. Its an open world, single player RPG. You play as a male or female character who is the first to have been reborn from the Well of Souls, which makes you a bit of a celebrity. You must find out who killed you and why.
There are five colorful regions in Amalur, it reminds me a bit of Fable although a little bit “gritter.” Everything has a story behind it and the NPCs are available to pass on information, there are also books strewn around the world that you read to help you with those stories.
The game will be available on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Closed beta suggests release is close
EA Games recently announced a closed beta test for Star Wars: The Old Republic starting in September. The beta for the MMORPG will involve weekend play sessions and will be open to selected players.
Star Wars: The Old Republic has had an ongoing beta for a while now, so its assumed that the addition to the weekend closed beta means they are getting close to a final product. Some rumors suggest a release in October, that would be sweet!
Star Wars themed Xbox 360 console
Resembling R2-D2 and C3P0
A limited edition Xbox 360 console was revealed yesterday by Microsoft at a Comic-Con panel. The console will be modeled after the R2-D2 character (white and blue colored), will have a wireless gold controller (gold colored not actual gold, just want to make that clear) which is supposed to resemble C-3P0.
When you turn the console on and open the disc tray, you will hear R2-D2’s signature beeping sounds. The console will sport a huge 320-gigabyte hard drive and will cost just under $500 when it becomes available later this year. It will be bundled with a white Kinect sensor, headset and the action adventure game Kinect Star Wars, and yes, the game does feature the pod-racing mode from The Phantom Menace.
Mortal Kombat welcomes Freddy Krueger
The last DLC fighter
The fourth and final downloadable fighter for Mortal Kombat has finally been revealed, Freddy Krueger. He will be arriving on August 9th and will sport two claws, looking more like the 2010 Freddy then the classic Freddy. We don’t have confirmation on the price, but if past DLC characters are any indication, he should cost 400 Microsoft points or $4.99 on the PSN.
Allied Star Police
A game developed out of love and a child’s dream
PopCap’s 4th and Battery Studio has released Allied Star Police, a game that was created by Owain Weinert via the Make-A-Wish foundation. Owain is diagnosed with leukemia and had been wanting to make a video game. The foundation helped him team up with PopCap Games, take his first-person shooter game idea and turn it into reality.
PopCap did this all within a week and all out of their own pocket. You can find Allied Star Police for free in the App Store. It’s a fun, simple game that came from the heart of a child, it also connects gamers with the charitable organization Child’s Play and the Make-A-Wish foundation.
When you boot up the game, you’ll see a link to Owain’s story, besides the usual “play” button. The game is a castle defense game which involves your units and alien units. Again, the game is free and works on the iPad and the iPhone, give it a try and if you like it, show some support by making a donation to Make-A-Wish foundation.
