Here is another game by BulkyPix that is sure to tickle your brain. Crazy Escape is a fun-looking game with interesting mechanics that make good use of the touch screen on iOS devices. Why no one else may have thought of this kind of gameplay yet is a bit puzzling, but perhaps that’s why BulkyPix is good to have thought of it. If you feel like a prey who has been abused by a bunch of predators after a hard day’s work, then this game should bring relief to your aching heart.
In this game, you play as a couple of penguins driving a jeep. Your mission is to rescue the sheep from the wolves in each level by drawing a road from point A to B, passing by the sheep and the bonus stars to pick them up and going around the wolves to make a clean getaway. Later on in the game, you are also chased by the alpha wolf, who is really hungry and wants lamb chops for dinner. Soon enough, it becomes a combination of cat-and-mouse and a unique puzzle game that looks easy, but is actually quite challenging.
First of all, the visuals are quite nice overall, with characters and backgrounds well drawn. The top-down perspective give a good view of the levels and lets players get a sense of which way they should take. The animations are quite alright for such a game, so it’s not too bad at all. The music isn’t too bad either, with the track in the main menu having a bit of tropical-slash-country vibe to it and quite nice to listen to.
The gameplay is shown gradually as you play each level. You are first shown the basic mechanic of drawing the road across the level, then the wolves come in, then the alpha wolf starts chasing you, and so on. This progression makes this game quite easy to learn, which is nice for people who aren’t inherently gamers. This element makes this game a good casual game for the iOS, just like other titles like Angry Birds and Cut the Rope. These simple mechanics are what makes for successful casual games, and this has a potential of being a hit.
One very good thing about this game is the simple controls. All you have to do is drag your finger across the screen to make a road that the penguins follow on command, which can be done quite smoothly. It follows changes in speed and direction as you see fit, so you can make pretty tight turns and sudden corners quite easily. This gives players a degree of freedom in completing the levels, especially when the difficulty level is raised with various obstacles and the need to collect keys to free the sheep from their shackles before saving them.
As you complete the level, the results depend on how many stars you’ve collected along the way and how long the road you’ve drawn is. If you just want to finish the level, you can just get all the sheep and get to the finish line without collecting the stars to draw the shortest road possible. Perhaps these different ways of finishing levels gives this game a bit of replay value in that it makes you play each level at least twice.
This game is quite a fun casual game that may catch on in the App Store. If you are looking for a new game, then perhaps you should give this a try. It’s quite a good fit for the iOS, and it provides tons of fun with each passing level.
