Whenever another twin stick shooter comes to the App Store, customers might either sigh in exasperation or just feel a bit excited since twin stick shooters are always exciting in gameplay. This game called Super Cyclone is another addition to the genre, and it does have a few things that make it a bit unique. You don’t just fly around in empty space and shoot at whatever that moves; you storm your enemies in a good sense.

The aim of the game is to defend the stargate from waves of enemy ships until the level is finished. You’ll find nests where enemies spawn from continuously, so you have to take those out while having to address the issue of enemy ships swarming you. If a nest hits the stargate, then you lose and the game is over. While the game is like any other twin stick shooter, it’s the cyclone attack that makes this game different from other conventional twin stick shooters as it really does change things up during combat. While you can shoot down enemies the old fashioned way, you can also spin them off, which is always awesome when it lands.

It is worth noting that controls are a major issue when it comes to twin stick shooters as it can make or break the game in question. In this regard, Super Cyclone passes with flying colors with its smooth and responsive controls that you can use to not get killed. This is especially helpful against the variety of enemies you’ll encounter, which always does well with throwing lots of surprises at you. Other than that, it works like with any other twin stick shooter for the iOS.

This game does look good from both far away and up close, with all the brilliant effects and easily recognizable enemies that go along with the action. The music also makes this game great to play after a shot of adrenaline. But then again, electronica is great for so many games out there. Here in Super Cyclone, it’s such a perfect blend between the visuals, soundtrack, and gameplay that it’s quite a feast for the senses.

You get stars and coins after each level as usual, with which you can acquire upgrades to get higher scores and pose better defense for the stargate. Perhaps the only bad thing about this game is that what you only see is really what you get. The gameplay is just the twin stick shooting action and nothing more, but that shouldn’t be too much of a bad thing anyway. As a twin stick shooter, it’s quite solid on its own. Just don’t expect anything too out of the ordinary to just spring up from this game, but it still does a lot to keep itself from getting stale too quickly.

While it has its distinctions and unique features, it’s still mostly a twin stick shooter that seems to do a bit better than most of its counterparts. It’s a solid game with a laser focus on its core gameplay. If you’re a fan of twin stick shooters, then this should do you quite nicely. Super Cyclone is a good addition to your iDevice and a pretty challenging one at that.
