Explosions are always fun in video games, and this game should satisfy your appetite for destruction. If you’re familiar with the Bomberman franchise, then this should do well for you. Crazy Bomber is a game for the iOS with lots of things to blow up with. You can also do a lot of other stuff with your little monster and its bombs aside from destroying everything, but that’s for you to find out if you do decide to get this game.
The gameplay is simple enough, with the d-pad for movement and the button on the right to drop a bomb, which blows up in four directions. That’s just like in Bomberman, so a lot of people will be familiar with its mechanics. The objective is to blow up the obstacles and enemies on your way to the glowing passage on the next area. That’s a combination of both traditional Bomberman and the point-A-to-B type of gameplay that’s pretty rife in today’s casual games. It’s solid enough to have its good moments and provide skill-based gameplay for those who like going one-up against their friends and rivals.
The overall visual presentation is quite nice for a casual game of this design with a cute and colorful interface and environment, which is very welcoming for gamers of all ages. The art style for the whole game is obvious enough right from the title screen to the character select screen, where everything is just full of bright colors and thick curvy lineart. Also, the purchasing features inside this game are not intrusive and annoying, unlike others where you’re blasted repeatedly with ads and other reminders to buy this from the in-game store in order to enter or defeat that. That is a nice change from other freemium games where you’ll grumble for not being willing to use your credit card for anything other than online purchases.
The controls isn’t the best per se as it gives you a limited range of movement in the game. Perhaps it could be improved, but this one that’s present in the game could take some getting used to. Also, no matter what you do, the singleplayer has to be finished in order to unlock the multiplayer features. Sadly, the singleplayer isn’t as interesting as most people would like, but you still have to finish it in order to play with your friends. With that said, This is still pretty much a game of skill, just like Bomberman, so you may take that time to get good first before attempting to trounce your human opponents.
Once you do unlock the multiplayer though, this game starts shining with the fun that you’d get in Bomberman. Crazy Bomber is something worth checking out for the iOS, even if you think that it’s just a Bomberman clone. Despite the less-than-stellar singleplayer and the sub-par controls, the way Crazy Bomber looks and the fact that it’s in the iOS should be more than enough reasons to make you add it to your collection, if you really are into this type of game.
