Twisted Metal
Includes voucher for T M Black
If you purchase the first run of Twisted Metal for the PS3, you will be able to use the voucher included to download Twisted Metal Black as well.
Twisted Metal Black has a darker atmosphere and was originally released on the PS2, although it was re-released a year later with online multiplayer support.
Twisted Metal itself has a campaign mode, two-player split-screen action and online battles. The voucher given out to the first-run copies of Twisted Metal was a way for Eat Sleep Play to say thank you to its fans for their support, a bit of a Christmas present you could say.
The game will be available to PS3 on Valentine’s Day, February 14th.
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Holiday brings in 1 million gamers
Electronic Arts has reported that its mulitplayer online role-playing game, Star Wars: The Old Republic, has seen over 1 million gamers venture into the game during the holiday season, making it the fastest growing subscription MMO in history.
EA adds that cumulative play time over the holiday weekend topped out at 5.5 million hours of gaming. It seems that the Dark Side had a few more takers then the Light Side. About 850,000 chose to play as a Sith warrior and about 810,000 chose to be a Jedi knight. EA currently has few concerns regarding the profitability of the game, given they can sustain 1 million monthly users.
Child’s Play Gala and Auction
Raised big money for sick kids
An annual event that encourages donations to benefit children’s hospitals, the Child’s Play Gala and Auction, raised $351,000 at its sixth annual gala. That brings the total donations for the charity to about $1.95 million for the year. However, that leaves the charity a bit shy of its goal to raise $2 million.
One of the highest bid items at the auction was a replica of a Half-Life Gravity Gun, going for $21,000. A copy of Nintendo World Championship Grey #60 went for $11,500 and one person topped the bid to have a guest role drawn into the Penny Arcade comic strip for $10,000.
While the Gala and Auction are over, people are still free to donate to the cause and help out some very sick kids. Donating can be done by texting “GAMERS” to 50555 for a one-time direct $5 donation, or you can visit their website to get more info or to donate.
GamePro shut down
Both print and online
The November issue of GamePro was its last. The gaming publication closed down both its print and online editions December 5th. The thanked their readers and fans for their loyalty and support and reported that GamePro will become part of PCWorld.com where they will continue to offer gaming news, reviews and such as part of the PCWorld team.
GamePro, a subsidiary of International Data Group, first launched its monthly publications back in May 1989. They began their online outlet in 1996. At its peak of performance, GamePro had become such a “household” brand among gamers that it even had its own line of action figures. Toys of editors like Dr. Zombie and Major Mike were sold right alongside of toys of Zelda’s Link and Sonic the Hedgehog. The end came as a result of the economic times and declining advertising money which is necessary to keep a monthly magazine afloat. We will miss you GamePro!
Fallout: New Vegas Mod
Director’s pet project
A game mod isn’t usually all that news worthy, however, when a mod comes out from someone who actually worked on the game, like the project director, this tends to be a bit more news worthy. Bethesda Softworks project director for Fallout: New Vegas, J.E. Sawyer, has released a PC mod from the game which you can download from his website.
The mod soups up the difficulty as it cuts the level cap and XP gains. Sawyer states that since no one is working on the game anymore, this is a mod rather then content and is something he worked on himself in his free time. The mod requires you to have all the DLC that was released plus all the pre-order packs in order for it to work.
Borderlands 2
New Gunzerker class
Borderlands 2 capitalizes on its predecessor’s strengths as well as giving us some new features. One new feature in the works is a new class, the Gunzerker, basically berserk for guns. The class’s primary attribute is that they are able to enjoy twice the gun power, or dual-weld, for brief periods.
As with other classes, there are elaborate skill trees that go along with the Gunzerker class. They have three branches they can aspire toward, depending on your style of play. The Brawn tree will satisfy strong husky fighters, the Rampage branch will satisfy all you crazy wild fighters and the Gun Lust branch will thrill the techies out there. So for all you duel-welding, gun lovers out there, now is your chance to go crazy and enjoy!
Grand Theft Auto 3
For Android and iOS
Wanna carry Grand Theft Auto 3 around in your pocket or purse? Do you own a smart phone? If you answered yes to both of these questions then this story is for you! Thanks to the 10th anniversary iOS and Android release of GTA 3 you can now carry the game around with you where ever you go.
The game’s textures have been updated above and beyond what one would typically expect and modders everywhere have learned that tweaking the game is actually rather easy to do. Not only that but a bunch of existing PC mods are already compatible! Easy as copy to a folder and go.
With an already fun packed game, mods aren’t necessary of course, but if you want to add to the fun of the game you might want to head over to the App Store of your choice for your device and get some extra game fun going.
Hot Shot Golf: World Invitational
Online Pass for Vita required
With Online Pass tokens suddenly becoming so very popular with game publishers this year, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that such tokens will apply to PS Vita games too. So retail copies of Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational will be packaged with an Online Play code.
The PlayStation Store’s download only versions of the game will require the purchase of a separate Online Play Ticket costing around $10. Something to note here is that while the download only game is initially cheaper than the retail game, once the Online Play Ticket is purchased they both end up costing the same.
So it seems that those download only games really aren’t any cheaper to own then the boxed version, unless of course you have no intention of playing the game online.
Half-Life 3 rumors
Our hopes are dashed
I don’t know about you, but I have been getting myself all stoked for the possibility of a new Half-Life game coming out soon. The rumor mill was giving us hope that Half-Life 3 was in the works, or soon would be, depending upon which rumor or story you read. Sadly, it seems that all the rumors and high hopes were wrong.
Chet Faliszek, writer for Half-Life and Left 4 Dead, seems to knock us all over the head in a Steam forums post which he titled “You are being trolled.” He states that … well, no, let me give you the full quote rather than trying to rephrase it in a nice way … He wrote:
“You are being trolled.
There is no ARG.
Wheatley’s speech was set in Portal 2 fiction – that is all.
There has been no directive from Gabe to leak anything. That is all false.
I just want to say this so there is no confusion. This is the community trolling the community nothing more. While it is nice to see people excited about HL, I hate seeing people be trolled like this.
Thanks”
So there ya have it .. hopes be dashed! No Half-Life 3 in the works. And just like that, now I’m sad.
Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D
Bundle includes 3DS in snake skin
Kojima Productions has made a custom snake skin Nintendo 3DS which will be included in the Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D bundle. The outer shell of the device is wrapped in fake snake skin. How cool is that! Playing Snake Eater 3D on a snake skin 3DS, I mean really, does it get much better than that?
Don’t get too excited though. More than likely the United States will never see the snake skin laden device on its store shelves. At the moment it is only being sold in Japan. No fair! I wanna experience the feel of scales between my fingers as I battle the bad guys too.
Hard to say if it will ever be sold in the U.S., naturally we hope so, but if not I guess if you want it bad enough, you’ll have to import it. Come on Japan, share the goodies!
