Mass Effect 3
N7 Collectors Edition
Although its going fast, the Mass Effect 3 N7 Collector’s Edition pre-orders for PS3 are still available. GameStop no longer has other versions of the N7 Collector’s Edition available for pre-order however. In the UK, many of the retailers handling the pre-orders are all sold out.
No worries if you want to get your hands on the regular version of the game, it seems that all major retailers, including those in the UK, are still offering the game. If you have pre-ordered the game you will also be the lucky owner of the M-55 Argus Rifle DLC or the N7 Warfare gear, depending on which retailer you pre-ordered the game from.
Mass Effect 3 will launch this Tuesday, March 6th in the US and March 9th in the UK for the Xbox 360, PS3 and the PC.
Silent Hill HD Collection
Tuesday’s launch delayed
Despite the fact that we announced a March 6th launch for Silent Hill HD Collection, a statement made to the Game Informer magazine suggests the game’s launch has been delayed. Apparently, the game is now scheduled to be released in two weeks on March 20th. There was no specific reason for the delay given.
Silent Hill HD Collection has been delayed before. It was originally supposed to be released in the fall of 2011, then it was moved to January 24th 2012, and now again another delay has been announced.
If all runs as expected, there will be several Silent Hill games released this month. Silent Hill: Downpour is expected to be available on March 13th for the Xbox 360 and the PS3. Silent Hill: Book of Memories is expected to be released on March 27th for the PS Vita. So if all goes well, Silent Hill fans should be able to really dive into the game soon.
Doom 4
Leaked images
Matthew Hooper, id software design director, recently stated that once Doom fans see Doom 4 they will “see awesome”. This comment came shortly after some Doom 4 images were leaked and reports of cancellation were claimed. Hooper took to Twitter and stated that “Those images have nothing to do with what you’re gonna see in Doom 4,”.
When QuakeCon 2012 takes place in August this year, it is expected that Doom 4 will be on of the major draws of the convention. We hope that by then we will have more word on when the game will be released. As an old Doom fan myself, I look forward to getting some long awaited information on an official release date.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City
Strong sales expected
Several of the triple-A games that were released so far this year have struggled to meet sales expectations. Capcom believes, going by the Pre-order figures, that Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City will defy the odds and do even better than most. Karl Reader, the UK product manager, recently stated that “Our pre-order figures have given us a huge amount of confidence that the title will perform well despite the current conditions at UK retail,”.
Reader believes that gamers are purchasing the brands they feel they can trust, and the Resident Evil brand has always given gamers a quality experience. He adds that “We know our Resident Evil audience very well; the real challenge is to captivate a wider audience with a new take on team-based action horror. We couldn’t be in a stronger position to achieve just that.”
Pre-orders for the game are soaring even though Capcom hasn’t yet announced what the pre-order goodies will be. Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is expected to release for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in the US on March 20th and the UK on March 23rd. Additionally, Resident Evil 6 is expected to launch in November.
Battlefield 3: Aftershock
EA shuts down iOS title
In order to focus its resources on other titles, EA Games has decided to shut down its iOS title of Battlefield 3: Aftershock. The game hit the App Store last month as a free spin-off of Battlefield 3, however it was remove shortly thereafter due to difficulties with the game’s controls and connection issues.
EA stated that they had removed the game so they could re-evaluate it after negative feedback from consumers. Now it appears the game won’t be back. EA recently stated that they wanted only the highest quality of mobile games available to their customers, therefore they ended support and further development of the game. The Battlefield 3: Aftershock servers will continue to be live until March 31st, at which point the game will end.
Lord of the Rings Online
New update
A new zone will be introduced in the Lord of the Rings Online. Update 6: Shores of the Great River will include a set of new quest rewards and a new reputation faction and elite area.
In the free to play MMO, the Great River is described as the home of the first Rohirrim settlement. The region includes 200 quests and will be free for VIP users. Another expansion to the game will be available in August and is titled Riders of the Storm.
Trials Evolution
Launch update
It appears that we can expect the follow up to Trials HD, a hit Xbox LIVE title, to be released April 18th. Trials Evolution made a brief appearance on the Xbox Marketplace list until its release date was later edited to read December 31st, 2799. The April 18th release date tends to correlate with the Xbox LIVE Arcade’s usual Wednesday release dates for their titles.
Neither Microsoft or Ubisoft have given any further information regarding the release however. RedLynx is currently developing Trials Evolution and the game was announced at E3 2011 with a 2012 release window which was later narrowed to a spring release.
Trials Evolution is a racing game that is reported to have 60 different tracks set amongst hills, valleys, roads, rivers, industrial areas and urban areas. It has a four-player on and off line play and includes a track editor system so you can create and share your tracks with others online.
Evolve
THQ acquires trademark
THQ recently riled a trademark application with the US Patent & Trade Office for video game software title Evolve. While we don’t really have much more information we do know that this has been a difficult year for THQ. The holiday quarter, typically good for the game industry, left the company with a 56 million dollar loss. The company decided to drop its children’s game sector and the worst news of all for the company is that it has to get its stock shares above $1 by July or it will lose its listing on the American stock market, Nasdaq.
So here is a shout out to THQ, one of my own personal favorite game companies, and hopes that Evolve will turn out to be a great new gaming title that will bring the company back into the fold.
Ratchet & Clank HD Collection
Launching for PS3 soon?
Its looking like we may well see a May 16th launch for Ratchet & Clank HD Collection, if a listing on Amazon France is correct. The listing did not mention which games would be included in the collection, and in fact, the listing has since been taken down.
The whole thing is a bit of a surprise (although a welcome one if true) since Sony has never announced a HD collection for Ratchet & Clank. On the other hand, Sony has often given us HD packs of its old PS2 titles for the PS3 such as Sly Cooper, Jak & Daxter, God of War, and Ico & Shadow of the Colossus. So there may well be hope that this wasn’t just a random accident by Amazon France and there will actually be an HD collection of Ratchet and Clank available in the near future.
BioShock: Infinite
Launch date released
Recently 2K Games confirmed that BioShock: Infinite will be available for the United States on October 16th and the internationally available on October 19th. This will be the first full game by Irrational Games since it launched the original BioShock in 2007.
The game was revealed officially way back in August 2010 with a 2012 release date. Reportedly, BioShock Infinite has similarities to the original game but isn’t being billed as an actual sequel. The first-person shooter is set in the flying city, Columbia, in an alternate 20th Century. Utopian ideals have given way to a sea of chaos and political upheaval.
You play as a former member of the Pinkerton National Detective Agency, Booker DeWitt. “Steampunk” robots have replaced horses and people and the citizens have begun to revolt using odd powers and guns galore.
The game is expected to be released for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. A PS Vita version of the game is also said to be in development.
Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time
PS3 exclusive release info
The PS3 exclusive game Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time is expected to be released this fall. The game was originally announced at E3 2011 and is the first entry in the franchise by the Sanzaru Studio.
Within the game you will end up meeting Sly’s ancestors via time travel. Expect to see more on this game before its release sometime this coming fall.
Lionhead’s Fable creators
Start new UK game studio
One of my favorite game franchises, Fable, saw its Lionhead Studio’s creators, Dene and Simon Carter (brothers) form their own game studio in the UK. The brothers will act as creative director and technical director for their new studio named Another Place Productions.
Besides the Carter brothers, other former Lionhead Studios staff are also joining with Another Place Productions including John McCormack as art director, Jeremie Texier as production director and Guillaume Portes as technical director.
We don’t have any indication yet about what they are working on, however, the Carters did state at one point that they were interested in building downloadable games for places like Xbox LIVE, the PlayStation Network, Steam and mobile games. If their success with the Fable franchise is any indication, we should see some quality stuff coming out of Another Place Productions.
As a side note, there is a new Fable title in development for the Kinect, Fable: The Journey.
Assassins Creed III
Set in Colonial America
Recently some supposed promotional material for Assassin’s Creed III was released which seems to confirm that the game will be set in Colonial America. The material gives us an image of a hooded character using a tomahawk, bow and arrows, and a gun standing in front of the Continental flag. Another image shows our hooded Assassin character with President George Washington.
When Assassin’s Creed: Revelations ended, we were given the impression that there would be a new character in the next game. Ubisoft recently released the box art for the game and announced that Assassin’s Creed III will be officially unveiled the beginning of this month, during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco will be running from March 5th through the 9th. The game itself is set to launch on October 30th and is expected to be the largest launch in the history of Ubisoft.
