Return to Top The Last of Us

Patch 1.03

Some major updates included in patch 1.03 for The Last of Us have recently been announced by Naughty Dog.  Expect some general tweaks as well as changes to the matchmaking system, rebalancing of post-match rewards, and a new multiplayer mode called Interrogation.

Interrogation has been described as a four-on-four, two-stage, objective-based mode where your team competes against others for information that will lead you to a safe full of supplies.  You’ll need to interrogate opponents to gather five pieces on intel that leads to the location of the safe.  At that point it becomes a race to the safe so you can loot the cache before your opponent can.

The change to the matchmaking system involves an update that better connects players of similar experience levels.  Now, dominating an opposing team by a large margin will now give you a larger number of parts as rewards for winning the match.  Some of the other multiplayer changes includes the opportunity to interrupt executions and interrogations that are in progress, an increase in the friendly player revival range.

Return to Top LEGO MMO

Launching next year

Funcom, the developer who brought us Age of Conan and The Secret World, will be launching an all new MMO called LEGO Minifigures Online.  They expect the game to launch in the second half of next year for PC, iOS, and Android.

The game is based on the LEGO minifigures line of real-world toys.  The toys will include a code that will let you download a virtual version of a playable character in the game.  There will be around 100 characters that you can collect and then you can swap between three playable characters at a time within the game.

LEGO Minifigures Online will also include a PvP feature which Funcom will provide more information about later in the year.  While the game was originally announced last year, we don’t expect to hear much more about it until closer to the end of this year.

Return to Top The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

Launching in November

Nintendo recently announced that the 3DS will be getting The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds on November 22nd.  That is the same date that the high-profile Wii U title Super Mario 3D World will launch.

Those launches happen a week before the Black Friday shopping spree in the United States.  Another Nintendo game launch on the same day will be Mario Party: Island Tour for the 3DS.

Return to Top Warface

Coming to Xbox 360

Crytek recently announced that Warface will be making its appearance early next year for the Xbox 360.  Warface is a free-to-play online shooter that was previously only announced for the PC.  However, the game probably won’t actually be free-to-play on the Xbox 360 since you need to be an Xbox Live Gold subscriber to play the game.

This is Crytek’s first free-to-play game and runs on CryEngine 3.  Both the PC version and the Xbox 360 version are still in development, with the PC version currently in beta.  The game is set in the future as a military shooter which Crytek states offers a cinematic experience with next-gen visuals.

Return to Top Nintendo 2DS

New system launching soon

On October 12th, alongside Pokemon X and Y, Nintendo announced that their new 2DS system will launch for $130.  It’s worth noting that the 3DS currently sells for about $170.

The 2DS will play all of the 3DS games and is backwards compatible with Nintendo DS titles as well.  The 2DS system works differently than the 3DS system, it is not a hinged unit and is a bit more tablet-like, although it does have two screens that are the same size as the 3DS screens.

Scott Moffitt, Nintendo’s marketing executive, reports that releasing this system doesn’t mean that Nintendo is putting distance between itself and the 3DS.  Rather, the 2DS is aimed at attracting sales through its lower price.  “It doesn’t mean that we are not committed at all to 3D and that we don’t think that’s a really valuable, unique eye-popping feature for a lot of gamers.  We just wanted to continue growing the installed base and needed to find a way to get to a price point that was more accessible for a broad swath of consumers.” Moffitt then added, “As we surveyed the marketplace, it seemed to us that there was an opportunity for something at that lower, entry level price point.”

Return to Top Borderlands 2 Game of the Year Edition

Finally revealed

The rumors were true, Borderlands 2 Game of the Year Edition was recently confirmed by Gearbox.  It will launch on October 11th for the Xbox 360 and PS3.  The package will include all the main title content, the pre-order bonuses, expansions and additional character classes.

Randy Pitchford, Gearbox president, said that  ”For us and for fans, the love for Borderlands 2 has been nothing short of spectacular, so it’s natural for us to want everyone else to have a chance to experience the best-selling game and its most valuable expansion content.”

The game originally launched last September, and according to 2K Games, it shipped some six million units.

Return to Top Halo 4 Game of the Year Edition

Launching this October

And speaking of Game of the Year Editions, Halo 4 will launch its Game of the Year Edition next month.  According to Microsoft it will offer ” tremendous value for fans who want to enjoy one of the most critically acclaimed games of 2012, and additional DLC all in one place. We will have more details to share during the live stream of the Halo Global Championship Finals this Sunday.”

The package will include the original game, Spartan Ops Season 1, a War Games Map Pass, pre-order bonuses, the Halo 4 Champions Bundle and the digital DLC previously offered for the original game.

Return to Top Metro Last Light

Tower Pack DLC

A new Metro: Last Light downloadable content (DLC) launches this week for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, titled Tower Pack.

This game add-on will challenge you to fight your way up a heavily guarded combat simulator that is packed with hordes of enemies, mutants and other such deadly threats.  As you progress through each level of the tower the difficulty scale increases.

Tower Pack is the second of the four add-ons confirmed for the game.  We can expect to see The Developer Pack, which has a fully stocked Shooting Gallery, a bonus solo mission titled The Spiders’ Nest, an AI Arena and Metro Museum.  Then later this year The Chronicles Pack will release featuring three original single player missions that lets you explore the side stories of Pavel, Khan and Ulma, and Anna away from Artyom’s adventure.

Return to Top Bound by Flame

Fantasy RPG coming to PS4

Early next year the PS4 will get Bound by Flame, a dark fantasy RPG that involves meaningful character customizations and some tough choices.

The game is already expected to be available for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.  It is a tale of demonic possession, tempting powers, and as the protagonist you have to choose to either submit to or resist the demon inhabiting you.  As a result of this struggle, you gain demonic powers of destruction, or noble strength gained from discipline and your humanity.

You will be able to see your choices reflected within the world around you as well as your hero’s own body and that of your companion.
