Nintendo says “no” to same-sex marriage
Nintendo recently removed a “bug” which they referred to as a “strange relationships” bug that allowed same-sex marriage on their Tomodachi Life game. According to a statement by Nintendo, “Nintendo never intended to make any form of social commentary with the launch of Tomodachi Life. The relationship options in the game represent a playful alternate world rather than a real-life simulation. We hope that all of our fans will see that Tomodachi Life was intended to be a whimsical and quirky game, and that we were absolutely not trying to provide social commentary.”
This decision spurred fans into creating a petition online requesting same-sex relationships be reinstated into the game. Nintendo responded saying, “We have heard and thoughtfully considered all the responses. We will continue to listen and think about the feedback. We’re using this as an opportunity to better understand our consumers and their expectations of us at all levels of the organization.”
In a recent interview with IGN, Bill Trinen of Nintendo insisted that the purpose of the patch wasn’t to remove same-sex marriages but to fix a data leak. He added that this only seemed to be a problem for the Western audiences, Japanese players did not seem to have an issue with the change.
Release change and pre-order goodies
Sacred 3 has been an anticipated game for many for a long time now, and it looks like those fans won’t have to wait as long as they thought they would. Deep Silver recently announced that the game will launch in early August rather than later that month.
Sacred 3 will be available to Xbox 360, PS3 and PC gamers on August 5th rather than the original launch scheduled for August 26th. The playable Malakhim character and an extra mission pack with exclusive weapon will be given as a pre-order bonus through GameStop.
Launch date moved
Yet another title has moved its launch into what appears to be a busy month for new releases. The Evil Within launch has moved from August to October. Bethesda reports that Shinji Mikami, the game director, and Tango Gameworks has asked for more time to improve the title.
The Evil Within will now launch for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and PC on October 21st. The pre-order bonus, according to Bethesda, will include several in-game items such as a double barrel shotgun, an incendiary agony bolt, a poison agony bolt, green gel, and a med kit.
Coming to Xbox One
If you are looking forward to playing Quantum Break on the Xbox One any time soon, you will be disappointed. The game won’t become available for Xbox One gamers until next year according to Sam Lake, developer at Remedy Entertainment. Lake also promised more information will come available at Gamescom in August.
Lake explained, “We are working hard to bring you an entertainment experience like no other. Quantum break will be out in 2015. I’m very excited to tell you that we’ll be presenting Quantum Break’s time-amplified action gameplay for the first time ever in August at Gamescom.”
Lake also explained how the game would interact with the live action show that is also planned. “The game is about heroes, the show is about villains. In the game you play Jack Choice in a desperate fight to stop the fracture, that threatens to cause the end of time. In the show, in the style of a modern TV series you follow the schemes and power play inside Monarch – the corporation that’s Jack’s main enemy.”
Possible Emerald remake
There are rumors circulating that suggest Nintendo will be doing a remake for the old GameBoy Advanced title Pokemon Emerald. The rumor comes as a result of Nintendo’s filing of a trademark in Japan for Pokemon Delta Emerald earlier this month.
There have also been rumors of other GBA classics being remade after hearing about titles like Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Pokemon Omega Ruby.
Pokemon Emerald, set in the Hoenn region, was originally released in 2005. It will be a good move for Nintendo if Delta Emerald does come out given that previous Pokemon remakes excluded at least one of the originals within the trilogy. For example, Pokemon Fire Red and Pokemon Leaf Green were remade but not Pokemon Yellow. Additionally, Pokemon Heart Gold and Pokemon SoulSilver got an update but not Pokemon Crystal.
We do hope that we will see Delta Emerald released along with Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby later this year. But time will tell if Nintendo plans to release the whole trilogy or if they will stick to their custom gap between the two games.
Offering two new games
Sony recently revealed that PS4 owners will be getting twice as many game titles per month starting in July. The games will be offered for less time as there will be more offered during a month, which begins on the first Wednesday of a month. This also means if you are a PS3 owner, you will be offered the same number of game titles as before and won’t have access to all titles offered in a month.
A post on the PS Blog explains, “Since we are always looking to continue the evolution of PS Plus as a service that really serves our community, we are excited to provide a more balanced set of games each month within the Instant Game Collection. Since we’ve seen how excited many of you are to download Instant Game Collection titles as soon as they’re available, we’ve decided to adjust the length of time each title will be available. Starting in July, every title in the Instant Game Collection will be available the first Wednesday of the month, and will be free for that month, until the first Wednesday of the following month.”
We don’t know just why Sony made this decision but we assume it has something to do with Microsoft’s facelift on their Games With Gold program, which actually now looks a lot like the PS Plus program.
Coming to PS Vita in Europe
On July 2nd Ratchet and Clank HD Trilogy will be available in Europe on the PS Vita. Australia will have access on the Vita starting July 9th. The Trilogy was originally released for the PS3 to celebrate the game’s tenth anniversary in 2012.
James Stevenson, Insomniac’s community chief recently stated, “We’re really excited by how well the PS Vita port of the HD Trilogy has turned out. It looks amazing and is a terrific way to play the classic Ratchet & Clank adventures. We can’t wait for you to get your hands on it and take Ratchet with you wherever you may go.”
In North America the Trilogy is known as the Ratchet and Clank Collection and it bundles the three original PS2 titles, Ratchet and Clank, Ratchet and Clank 2: Locked and Loaded, and Ratchet and Clank 3: Trophy.
PS3 and PS4 release dates
Popcap recently announced that in North America Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare will launch on August 19th for the PS3 and PS4. The game will launch for those same consoles in Europe on August 21st and in the UK on August 22nd.
The two DLC expansion packs, Garden Variety and Zomboss Down, will be bundled with the game.
The crazy plant and zombie shooter launched for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One launched back in February and became an instant hit.
Scheduled for Monday
Monday, June 2nd, from 9:50 am to 3:30 pm PDT, the PlayStation Network will be down for routine maintenance.
During the maintenance period, if you are signed into PSN from May 30th onward, you will still be able to access entertainment apps such as Netflix and play online games. However, you will not be able to access Account Management, the PlayStation Store, or PlayStation Home. If you try to access those areas you will receive a “maintenance” notice.
Sony states that they do “apologize for any inconvenience” and they “thank you for your patience.”
Activision has confirmed the next Call of Duty: Ghosts expansion pack titled Invasion. It will include four multiplayer maps, Pharaoh, Departed, Mutiny, and Favela which is a remake of Modern Warfare 2′s map. The DLC will also include Episode 3: Awakening for Extinction mode.
The Pharaoh map is located in Egypt and Mutiny is a map with a pirate theme. The Call of Duty: Ghosts DLC pass, which cost $50, includes four expansions, Onslaught and Devastation have already been released. Invasion and Nemesis are the final two expansions that have yet to be released.
The Invasion expansion will come available on Xbox Live on June 3rd. Other platforms will get the expansion a little later. If you purchased the DLC pass for the game by May 31st, content will transfer between generations. For example PS3 content will transfer to PS4, but Xbox 360 content will not transfer to PS4.
You can expect to see a new Call of Duty game, Advanced Warfare, launching in November for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and PC. There has been no mention of a Wii U version of the game.
Free on Origins
Origin users are getting a treat from Electronic Arts. Battlefield 3 is being offered for free as part of the “On the House” program until June 3rd.
Battlefield 3 launched to positive reviews back in 2011. Recently EA announced a new entry to the series titled Battlefield Hardline which is expected to launch this fall.
EA’s “On the House” program launched last March offering up Dead Space, the 2008 horror-action game. You can also pick up Plants vs. Zombies Game of the Year Edition through the program until June 17th.
