Under the Sega banner, The Creative Assembly's best known work, the Total War franchise, has thrived and expanded beyond most people's expectations. It is now the realization of its namesake. With its success, there are now efforts to cross over to other platforms, namely the iOS. Here is Total War Battles: Shogun, a mobile strategy game unlike most.
The gameplay looks like tower defense at first, but then becomes more strategic wherein you maximize your forces' effectiveness, despite the limited size, by countering whatever your enemy has. Being able to maximize your troops then becomes a balance of macro and micromanagement, [...More

They are peasants drafted to fight as soldiers for the Daimyo. They're mostly reluctant to fight, which means that they have low morale and will break easily in dire times. They're mostly ineffective against Samurai, unless very experienced, so charging against a Samurai army with an Ashigaru force is basically suicide. The Ashigaru are basically foot soldiers that fill in the gaps of your army that are voided by lack of Samurai and other more experienced troops.
The warrior class of feudal Japan, they've been trained since birth to fight. They have high morale as they follow Bushido, the Way [...More
Total War: Shogun 2 - Basic Units Guide [ Guide ]
Battles are the primary showcase of the Total War series, but it is also what puts new players off due to its sophisticated gameplay and grand scale. Most of this tentativeness is due to lack of understanding regarding the units involved. Knowing how to use the tools necessary to accomplish an objective is the foremost concern in anything, and this is especially true in war.
Sword Infantry - Foot soldiers with swords, e.g. Katana Samurai. Strong against infantry. Weak against cavalry and missiles.
Spear Infantry - Foot soldiers with spears, e.g. Yari Ashigaru. Strong against cavalry. Weak against sword infantry [...More

Shogun 2: Total War [ Review ]
Created by Creative Assembly, Shogun 2 on the PC is the sequel of one of the most underrated games in the action genre. One of the smartest, elegant and bold of Creative Assembly’s small line of video games, and probably the most successful as well. Shogun is a serious battle simulation action adventure video game nestled in a stately turn based game set in Japan’s feudal era.
Probably one of the best things about Shogun 2 is its presentation. By focusing on a relatively tiny island in this brief part of history, Shogun 2 makes the most out of the story [...More
