Did you ever notice how some of the Pokémon that appear in Pokémon Stadium have different colors? The secret to the color variations lie in the names you give your Pokémon as well as your trainer ID number (assiged to you in Pokemon Blue, Red or Yellow, whenever you start a new game). While there are a few secret names that change only certain Pokemon's colors, there are a few naming tricks that result in different color variations. For example:
Use only lower caps (ie: poliwhirl)
Reverse the syllables (ie: DRILLBEE)
Abridge the names (ie: Pika)

Safe Mew in Stadium 100%
If you have heard the advice "Don't transfer a Lv 10 Mew or higher to Stadium or it will glitch your game" don't listen to it. That advice is only for those who use their Mew from a Nintendo Event. If you upload a Mew from your game that was caught via Mew Glitch it won't glitch Stadium. I have tried a Lv 100 Mew in Prime Cup and there are no problems so you can use a Lv 10 or higher Mew in Stadium as long as it is from the Mew Glitch. Missingno. however will stuff up your game.

So do the Mew Glitch with the special stat of a desired Pokemon eg. 73 for Moltres and catch the Pokemon at say Lv 7. Then train the rare Pokemon to Levels around 15-20 and you can now beat the computers annoying Pokemon with your strong rare Pokemon. Use this glitch to get any Pokemon in Pika Cup except Mewtwo and Mew

Alternate Pokémon colors 100%
Alternate Pokémon colors

Pokémon that you upload from the Game Boy version can have alternate colors. Giving your Pokémon various nicknames will change their colors. Switch syllables, such as calling a "Mewtwo" to "Twomew" (blue color). Separate the syllables with a hyphen, such as "Mewtwo" to "Mew-two". Also try naming the Pokémon in all lower-case characters. To find out more methods, note the color of the opposing Pokémon and look at their nicknames. Naming a Pokémon after an attack will change its color. Note: This does not work for some attacks, and some Pokémon either will not change color or will do so very slightly. This is not limited to attacks that the Pokémon know or can learn. Some examples include:

"HYDRO PUMP": Dark Blue Gyarados.

"PSYCHIC": Red Mewtwo.

"METRONOME": Neon Yellow Pikachu.

Get Surfing Pikachu 98%
Yes, it's true: Surfing Pikachu is hidden in Pokémon Stadium. To teach your Pikachu Surf (a technique it can normally not learn), you need to 1st unlock the R-2 (Round 2) mode. Then do the following:

Enter the R-2 Prime Cup's Master Ball division (you have to win the 1st 3 divisions first). Assemble a team that contains a Pikachu that does not yet know Surf. You HAVE to use a Pikachu from your Game Boy game. You cannot unlock Surfing Pikachu using a Rental Pokémon. Do not register your team! Pick it directly from your Game Boy cartridge.

You now have to win the Prime Cup's Master Ball division using a three-Pokémon team that always contains Pikachu. Pikachu has to be in every one of the 8 battles. You are not allowed to use any continues. If you do, you won't get Surfing Pikachu.

Once you have fulfilled all the above conditions and beaten the cup, you are shown an award screen with Pikachu standing on a surfboard. From here on, Pikachu can use the Surf technique both in battle and during gameplay (Game Boy versions only). If you've got Pokémon Yellow, you can now also access the hidden Surfing Pikachu mini-game. Simply go to the small hut on the northern beach of Route 19.

*** This is the Pokemon Stadium game from North America, not to be confused with the Japanese Pokemon Stadium. This game is titled Pokemon Stadium 2 in Japan.
