PlayStation Move Ape Escape [ Review ]

When Sony released their new Dualshock technology, Ape Escape was what they used to showcase it. Ape Escape back then was a fun technological demo, and it expanded into an exciting and fast paced game. But a year later, Sony released PlayStation Move Ape Escape. I must say that this game didn’t meet my expectations. It would have been nice if the Ape Escape franchise was used to showcase the PlayStation Move. However, PlayStation Move Ape Escape seems to me to be a short and boring, on-rails shooting game which is opposite from the excitement of the original Ape Escape. First, [...More ]

Company of Heroes 2 (Beta) [ Review ]

The first Company of Heroes was such a breath of fresh air in the real time strategy genre, even with the tired old World War II premise. Perhaps the WW2 theme actually helped it as after having endured one WW2 first person shooter after another, being able to control your own troops in the battlefield was what the subgenre needed to stay fresh. The long-awaited sequel has now entered its beta stage, and those lucky enough to get access is treated to more polished gameplay and new features to revitalize the series. It has been quite a while since the original [...More ]

Playstation All Stars [ Review ]

When talking about Playstation All Stars Battle Royale, it is virtually impossible to not compare it against what is considered to be the benchmark of crossover fighting games, Nintendo’s Smash Bros. Sharing the same premise and game mechanics, Playstation All Stars lets you choose among characters coming from Sony game franchises as they are pitted against each other in free for all combat. However, Playstation All Stars was still able to inject its own elements that set it apart from its counterpart, although if these are good or bad changes, that is up to the players to decide. Like Smash Bros., [...More ]

PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale - Major update

Back on July 30th, I covered PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale with an extensive "all you need to know" article that covered the stages, weapons, and characters announced for the game at that point in time, while also speculating about possible future characters being revealed for the game. Well, since that has been published, another eight characters have been revealed for the game, bringing the official roster count up from 12 to 20. Also announced for PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale is the new Cross-Buy promotion. When purchasing select PS3 games, you will receive a download code to download the Vita version for [...More ]

PlayStation All-Star Battle Royale - What to Expect [ Editorial ]

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is an upcoming fighting game featuring many of the flagship exclusive characters to the Sony PlayStation Systems, and it’s uncannily similar to that of the Super Smash Brothers series in many ways. It’s being developed by SuperBot Entertainment along with help from Sony’s fabled SCE Santa Monica Studios (the geniuses behind the God of War series). First off, yes, it’s very similar to Super Smash Bros. It has similar graphics, gameplays, and mechanics. But there are plenty of subtle differences. Instead of getting knocked off the stage to die, and becoming increasingly light according to your percentage [...More ]

Why Fall is crucial for PlayStation Vita

For PlayStation Vita owners, this summer has seen a drought of games, exclusive, first-party, third-party or otherwise. Sales are not very well, and Sony is being destroyed by the competition. And all this even though the Vita has had one of the strongest launch in the history of video game systems, strengthened by high quality third-party ports and marked by entries in major first-party franchises, such as Uncharted: Golden Abyss. New reports have surfaced showing that Sony is having problems attracting third-party support for the Vita. At last year's E3, multiple developers and publishers pledged allegiance to the Vita, but with [...More ]

PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale - All you need to know

PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale is Sony's answer to Super Smash Bros., and I think it's fitting that in a week that saw me write a wishlist for the mysterious Super Smash Bros. 4, that I also take the time to cover Sony's upcoming brawler. Fans of Sony have been waiting for an answer to Smash Bros. for ages, and a multitude of information has been released regarding the game since its announcement a few months prior to E3 2012. This editorial will examine the roster and stages already announced, plus add a wishlist of what we'd like to see, and [...More ]

Nintendo DS vs. PlayStation Portable - Who won the war?

VS. Despite popular opinion, "Console Wars" does not refer to a bunch of fanboys arguing about which system is better on message boards. On the contrary, "Console Wars" refers to a sales and quality competition between the hardware developers, and really started to gain prominence with the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. Fast forward to now. The Nintendo DS and Sony's PSP are on their way out in favor of the Nintendo 3DS and the PS Vita. With the seventh generation handhelds giving way to the new, shiny eighth generation handhelds, it's time to take a look back at both systems, and [...More ]

Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale [ Preview ]

Crossover battles have been all the rage in recent years. We’ve seen X-Men and Marvel Comics characters duke it out with Street Fighter and other Capcom players, Marvel vs. DC, and of course, the much hyped Street Fighter and Tekken series, with both Capcom and Namco each taking a turn in developing their own games featuring the characters from these two famous fighting franchises. However, perhaps the most famous, at least to Nintendo fans, mash up of characters fighting each other is the Super Smash Bros. series, where famous Nintendo characters such as Mario, Link, and several others duke it [...More ]

Heroes of Ruin [ Preview ]

Heroes of Ruin is going to be available for purchase in just a few days on July 17th, but until then, you can read all about what I thought of the game during the demo that I played on the 3DS. If you yourself want to try out the demo, it is available for download in the 3DS eShop. Heroes of Ruin is a hack and slash lootfest in the style of the Diablo games. The game starts with spectacular 3D effects, with a window around your character that looks incredibly deep. The 3DS is capable of pop-out and deep 3D [...More ]

LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes [ Preview ]

I've had a love/hate relationship with the LEGO games. I found the original LEGO Star Wars a blast, the second one a disappointment, and I thought the Indiana Jones games were just okay. Harry Potter's attempt at a LEGO game bored the hell out of me, and so, it's really been all over the place. Nevertheless, I've played the demo for LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes on the Nintendo 3DS, and I just have to say that I came away impressed and excited to get my hands on this game in the coming weeks. The demo begins by throwing you [...More ]

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time to hit the PlayStation Vita [ News ]

It turns out that the upcoming title, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, will not be a PlayStation 3 exclusive. According to the developer (Sanzaru Games), the title will also hit SCE's newest handheld console, the PlayStation Vita. They announced on May 18th on the PlayStation blog that the full game will be available to play on the PSV. It will be released the very same day as its PS3 counterpart. There will be a few minor differences between the two versions. Sanzaru Games' president and CEO Glen Egan (through Jeff Rubenstein) stated in the blog post that the PlayStation Vita version [...More ]

LEGACY: Top 10 PlayStation 2 Exclusives

Oftentimes considered the greatest video game system of all time, Sony's PlayStation 2 certainly holds the title of being one of the best-selling systems ever, and does hold the title for the best-selling console ever made. During its life, the PS2 saw a ton of exclusive games that never made their way to the Xbox or the GameCube, and even then, a lot of the biggest games were timed-exclusives for the PS2, such as the Grand Theft Auto games. The PlayStation 2 features an exhausting library of exclusives, and so while a few of your favorites may be left out, [...More ]

Fable Heroes [ Review ]

Fable is a series that has been around for a while and has amassed quite a following. It’s already had a couple of sequels, as well as a number of spin-offs. However, Fable Heroes is a different take on the type of gameplay that gamers have been used to in this series, all set in a world that fans have come to enjoy and love. Fable Heroes takes beloved characters from the series such as Jack of Blades, Gabriel, Garth, Hammer, and many more, and puts them in a hack and slash, beat ‘em up co-op clash, much different from the classic RPG style that Fable fans [...More ]

REVEALED: PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale!

It’s about time. The success of Super Smash Bros. has, surprisingly, NOT yielded any clones from competitors. The only thing that really has come close was Jump! Ultimate Stars and it was exclusive to Japan. Sony has finally thrown their hat in the ring with PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, a Smash Bros. clone that looks to dethrone the king of crossover fighters. The development team is SuperBot Entertainment, a team reportedly comprised of people with a lot of fighting game experience, with developers from the UFC Undisputed series as well as Mortal Kombat working on the project. SuperBot Entertainment has collaborated [...More ]

PlayStation Vita [ Editorial ]

With the eighth generation beginning with the releases of the Nintendo 3DS and the PlayStation Vita, I have decided to cover all the eighth generation systems as they are released. Each year I will update everyone on what the past year meant for that system, until their successor is released. That being said, it's a little late, but it's time for the inaugural editorial about Sony's ambitious next-generation handheld, the PlayStation Vita. Similarly to my Nintendo 3DS article, I will assign various grades to the Vita, with a final grade posted at the end. I will compare the grade with its [...More ]

Fable Heroes [ Preview ]

Fans of the renowned action role-playing game Fable will get a chance to see their favorite characters again as they duke it out in the battlefield with Fable Heroes. Players who have experienced the previous games from the Fable series will be able to see familiar faces and environments, yet the differences between this game and the previous ones are extremely numerous. Fable Heroes deviates from the usual gameplay of the original series, as it is basically a beat ‘em up game, as compared to the RPG-style of play in the previous games. Players may still play as their favorite characters from the Fable series, and battles [...More ]

Top 10 PlayStation 3 Exclusives

In 2006, Sony launched the PlayStation 3 as the successor to the best-selling video game console of all time, the PS2. The PS3 launched at a ludicrous price of $599 and was more or less a failure for its first few years. Six years after the launch of the system, Sony has aggressively attempted to redeem itself, providing the PS3 with the largest library of first-party exclusives this gen. The PS3 has picked up its slack with its sales, and now people can no longer say "PS3 has no games". But what are the Top 10 greatest PlayStation 3 Exclusives available? [...More ]

PlayStation Vita - Sink or swim?

Sony's answer to the 3DS and the second system ushering in the eighth generation of gaming is the PlayStation Vita. Way back when it was revealed, the Vita looked phenomenal. At the time, the 3DS was failing to impress many gamers, and its sales were modest at best. Then Nintendo slashed the price of the system and tried to save face by offering twenty free games to early 3DS adopters. With a weak launch line-up, a lack of extra features, and no original quality software for months upon months, the 3DS seemed doomed, and for the first time in history, [...More ]

Might & Magic Heroes VI [ Review ]

Heroes of Might & Magic is a game franchise that never really seems to go away, having releases in regular intervals. Derived from the Might & Magic series, this spin-off series has become quite a classic in its own right. As Might & Magic is a pretty well-known RPG franchise, Heroes of Might & Magic is a fine example of turn-based strategy. This latest iteration of the series is set to raise the bar higher for the franchise while staying faithful to its origins. Take note that this is no game for the impatient as it has a pretty slow pace. [...More ]

Tiny Heroes (iOS) [ Review ]

There are plenty of tower defense games nowadays, which just says that it's an established game genre now. While a new one isn't as exciting as it used to be, there's still place for those that have something extra to the table. This game by Simutronics called Tiny Heroes seems to be a derivative of a derivative at first, but shows later on that it's not in a bad way at all. In this game, the action takes place in dungeons. You are the dungeon master and your goal is to keep those pesky heroes away from your treasure for as [...More ]
