Nintendo E3 2013 Report Card (Super Mario 3D World and Smash Bros.!)Nintendo bummed out their fans when they announced that they were cancelling their plans for a traditional press conference presentation at this year's E3. That being said, Nintendo didn't just abandon E3 completely. They decided to host a Nintendo Direct conference instead, hosted by Satoru Iwata, focusing on many upcoming games for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
There was a lot riding on Nintendo's Nintendo Direct conference, but I personally think they dropped the ball. To find out why, check out my score at the bottom of this article. And in the meantime, also check out my complete recap of [ ...More ]

Sony E3 2013 Report Card (Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III!)E3 2013 has almost wrapped up all of its major press conferences. Microsoft kicked off the day and converted an Xbox One hater with me. From there, Electronic Arts gave a stellar conference that really highlighted their biggest new games, especially the stellar Battlefield 4. Ubisoft revealed more next-generation IP during their conference that followed shortly after EA's.
But the world was truly waiting in eager anticipation for Sony's press conference for a multitude of reasons. Sony had many questions to answer during their press conference. How much is PS4 going to cost? Will PS4 block used games? Will people have [ ...More ]

Ubisoft E3 2013 Report Card (The Division and Assassin's Creed IV!)Ubisoft sort of stole the show from Nintendo last year when they announced Watch Dogs, one of the first games running on next-generation hardware, which really took gamers by surprise and captivated many. Watch Dogs was the surprise hit of E3 2012, and Ubisoft wanted to recreate their success of last year. Unfortunately, they also recreated their weak hosting choices.
Aisha Tyler drove me nuts, sure, but Ubisoft's press conference wasn't all bad! It was definitely the weakest press conference so far, but at the same time, Ubisoft still managed to keep it from being a complete waste of time thanks [ ...More ]

Microsoft E3 2013 Report Card (Halo 5 and Dead Rising 3!)Okay, so...wow. I went in to the Microsoft E3 press conference with a totally negative attitude. For weeks, I have been denouncing the console at every possible opportunity. The used games policy still bugs me, the entire Internet requirement situation is also a big downer. When I geared up to watch the Microsoft E3 2013 press conference with my buddies, I was expected to laugh and jeer with them at Microsoft's blunders.
Boy, is my foot in my mouth now.
I wrote about how the Xbox One was more like Xbox Done. I took shots at Xbox One in my preview for [ ...More ]

Monster Loves You! [ Review ]There have been a slew of titles coming out that mix genres and styles of gameplay these days, while some seem to throw complete curve balls entirely. Monster Loves You! is a strangely-named game that turns the player into some sort of monster babysitter and puppet master combo, letting you take care and control of a monster through its life. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Walkthrough [ Guide ]The world of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is treacherous, and it poses even more danger if you are a beginner in the game. Gamescom 2012: Ubisoft (Ghost Recon Online and Might & Magic!)Sony really impressed me with their Gamescom press conference. The focus on brand new games and hyping already announced titles helped their conference stand out from all the others. Now Ubisoft closes out Gamescom on the second day of Europe's biggest gaming show with a conference of their own, promising to focus on free-to-play video games.
Free-to-play
Ubisoft is hugely pushing free-to-play gaming, and they believe that it is the future of the gaming industry. Apparently, free-to-play gaming will become a $24.7 billion dollar market by the year 2014.

E3 2012 Report Card: Nintendo (New Super Mario Bros. and Mass Effect!)Pikmin are all around us
Who is the most important person at Nintendo? Shigeru Miyamoto. Not only is he the mind behind gaming's greatest franchises such as Super Mario and Zelda, but Shigeru Miyamoto is one of the key people responsible saving the industry from the video game crash of 1983. Miyamoto is a bonafide video gaming legend. Starting their show with him was probably the best way to go about it. It got the crowd excited, it got me excited (...), and it got all the Nintendo fans frothing out the mouth, for sure.
The video in question showed Mr. [ ...More ]

E3 2012 Report Card: Sony (God of War: Ascension and The Last of Us!)A wonderful history
First off, I must say that Sony's stage was really impressive. From the lighting to the set structure to the overall design was just outright cool. By comparison, the other press conferences feel a bit "small time", so to speak. I'm glad Sony takes E3 seriously. It shows by the amount of production value they put into their presentation.
Leading up to the show, we were given interviews with various members of the gaming community, like developers and more, all around the E3 area. This was a nice way to lead up to the press conference, but I was [ ...More ]

E3 2012 Report Card: Ubisoft (Far Cry 3 and Assassin's Creed III!)Sometimes I get a bad feeling, yeah
Once again, there was awesome pre-conference music that got me pumped up. Ubisoft lacked a video game highlight reel like the one EA boasted, but still, got me very pumped up. Speaking of music, the first half of Ubisoft's conference was basically all about music. Specifically, their major music game franchise. You probably know it. It's the biggest dancing franchise in the world. I'm talking about Just Dance 4.
Do I particularly care about Just Dance 4? Not really. I've never really been invested in the franchise. But I am able to recognize that the [ ...More ]

E3 2012 Report Card: Electronic Arts (Dead Space 3 and SimCity!)Get pumped up...in space
Before EA's show actually began, they placed a really awesome highlight reel showing off a lot of their upcoming games, with an upbeat, techno soundtrack that was very well done. Microsoft's biggest problem with their conference was the lack of game focus. EA started their conference strong by actually showing like they care about gaming.
EA then promised to show us 10 games throughout their conference, all developed by 10 different studios. Hey, an E3 press conference with a little structure? I can dig it. The first game they showed was the recently revealed Dead Space 3. [ ...More ]

E3 2012 Report Card: Microsoft (Halo 4 and Splinter Cell: Black List!)And so it begins...
Microsoft kicked off their E3 press conference with a cold open. A live-action film sequence saw a large UNSC ship crashing into a planet, with the people inside freaking out, as well they should. This bled into footage of Halo 4. This gameplay footage revealed that Halo 4 is a lot like Reach in terms of graphics, but it revealed a few new details about the game.
For one, Halo 4 features brand new enemies. Yes, we knew this before, but unless you checked out the leaked photos of Halo 4 action figures, you didn't know what these [ ...More ]

Deadlock: Online (iOS) [ Review ]The onslaught of "freemium" online games for the iOS has started to flood the App Store with really cheap options for mobile gaming addiction. Despite the fact that you have to pay to get certain items and other features in the game, developers are careful enough to leave enough open to attract new players into the fold.
