Fable: The Journey - You vs. Kinect
Set to release very soon, on October 9th, Fable: The Journey is truly right around the corner. Despite being a part of the major Fable franchise, arguably Microsoft's most important RPG series, Fable: The Journey really hasn't gotten the same attention as previous entries. The reason for that is the game is releasing as a game that requires Kinect to play, serving as a spin-off in the series. To hype the game, Microsoft recently posted a demo on Xbox Live Marketplace, and I played through it, beginning to end, and came away with mixed feelings.
Unfortunately, the demo failed to touch [...More
Harry Potter for Kinect - Demo Impressions
I am usually a big proponent for Kinect. The device is brimming with potential, and I knew this ever since I saw it debut at E3. However, very few developers have taken advantage of the Kinect's unique capabilities, resulting in a lot of half-hearted cash-ins that have ultimately failed to take advantage of the unique capabilities of the hardware in any meaningful or intriguing fashion.
There have been plenty of licensed games on Kinect that have attempted to throw in motion control gimmicks onto an existing franchise for on-rails silliness. Harry Potter for Kinect is the latest licensed Kinect game, and [...More
Steel Battalion: Another Kinect Flop? [ News ]
The latest entry in the "super hardcore" mech series from Capcom is diverting from the beaten path already established by the first two games. This new Steel Battalion game, subtitled Heavy Armor, is an attempt to appeal to the core gamer crowd with Kinect. Based on the game's demo, that is going to be extremely hard to accomplish.
Heavy Armor's demo starts off on a high note. The game uses unique methods to ensure that your Kinect sensor is calibrated correctly. From there, you can choose to play a mission from the campaign or the tutorial. If you choose to just [...More

Kinect Star Wars [ Review ]
Fans of the Star Wars Universe have anticipated the release of the Kinect Star Wars since its announcement at the Electronic Entertainment Expo last June 2011. Some anticipated it with less enthusiasm than others, however. Games featuring one of the most iconic characters in pop culture history have not been lacking in the previous years, so many were expecting great things from this game. Upon its release, however, there seems to be something lacking with Kinect Star Wars, and it is something that hardcore Star Wars fans did not seem to fully expect, and, ironically, it may be something that [...More
Kinect: One Year Later [ Editorial ]
On November 4th, 2010, Microsoft launched its highly interesting new peripheral, the Kinect. One year later, how is the Kinect compared to Sony's Move device or the forefather of motion control gaming, Nintendo's Wii? Should YOU buy a Kinect? Or are you not prepared to "become the controller"?
A history lesson
At E3 in 2009, Microsoft debuted its innovative motion control peripheral that
promised to make YOU the controller. The device, at the time named Project
Natal, piqued the interest of hardcore gamers and casual observers alike.
This new device promised do [...More

E3 Kinect Star Wars Floor Demo
One of the more interesting titles at E3 was Kinect Star Wars. I remember when I kept seeing that title I thought it was a work in progress. On paper the idea sounds awesome but will it translate well? Will the "Force Flail" become a hit with the hardcore gamer that the Kinect desperately needs to hook? I'm not sure all I know is in the demo later on you are fighting in Naboo, you go through a door and you are in the carbonite freezing chamber, ugh.
Anyway check it out for yourself and remember [...More

Oprah Gives Away Kinect and The Housewives Go Nuts
I don't know if anyone caught it but it seems if you were a gamer and somehow wandered your way into the Oprah taping, you my friend are a lucky man/woman... (well I suppose). Anyway Oprah was showing off the Kinect for Xbox 360 then she, (Spoiler Alert) gave the Xbox 360 Kinect bundle away to the entire audience.
Not terribly surprising since this is standard fare with Oprah. What amazed me was the near riot that begins after it is announced. Cars are flipped, PS3's are burned and move controllers were cast into the river. I don't know if people [...More
Microsoft Kinect Marketing will Cost Half a Billion
The NY Times reported today that this Holiday alone Microsoft will spend $500 Million Dollars, (no idea how many Microsoft points that is) on marketing for there controller free motion camera the Kinect. It will appear in magazines, the internet, soda cans, cereal boxes, and other various forms of marketing. They even brought it Stephan Speilberg 18 months ago to plan all this out.
"Kinect is the largest, most integrated marketing initiative in Xbox history, bigger than its launch," said Robert Matthews, general manager of global marketing communications for Xbox. "We are going to be spending millions to launch this globally."
Metal Gear Solid Rising No Kinect? [ TGS ]
The Microsoft keynote is still going on at the Tokyo Game Show (TGS), but some interesting news is already slipping out. In what for me is one of the most anticipated games, Metal Gear Solid Rising, was shown. It featured a new trailer and some live demoing of chopping up a watermelon. What might be more news worthy is that no mention of Kinect support was included. Since the game is being made in Japan it was expected that if any announcement was to be made this would be the place. The game was shown right after head of Xbox [...More
Sony Post New Site Challenging Kinect
Recently Sony has posted a new website called www.yaybuttons.com. In the site they take shots at Microsofts Kinect Controller Free Technology. The site makes the statement that "Buttons are important..." "Like Games that don't suck important." That's some pretty harsh words from Sony. I hope it's playful rhetoric and not the return of the arrogance I was happy to see Sony abandon. I do agree that buttons are important but Sony should let the hardware speak for itself and not have to deal with facing the potential blow up. Go to the site see for [...More

Unofficially Official: Kinect priced at $150?
While we received pricing info on Sony's Playstation Move motion controller at E3, Microsoft remained tight-lipped about the launch price for the Kinect. Until now. Sort of.
Speculation has been all over the map trying to nail down a proper price point for Microsoft's Kinect motion controller. For anyone that's been sleeping under a rock these past few weeks, the Kinect will use your body itself as the input device, registering your movements via camera to interact with its games. While that's an extremely dumbed down explanation, it gets across that the technology sounds pretty hardcore. That didn't stop the general [...More
