| Unlockable: Extreme Mode After you beat the game once, you'll unlock the Extreme difficulty level. Unlockable: Get Digital Camera After you beat the game, you can play the game over with the same save and you'll have the Digital Camera in your inventory for both the Plant and Tanker episodes. You can use this to take pictures and save them onto your memory card. Unlockable: Getting Dog Tags Most of the normal guards in the game have Dog Tags that contain the names of the game's development team and those that won Konami's contest. To collect the Dog Tags you must hold up the guard and then make him shake and give it up by pointing your gun at his head or crotch. Dog Tags can be collected for each of the game's four difficulty levels. Unlockable: Get the Wig First play through both the Tanker and Plant episodes and get every dog tag. Then start a new game and save. You will then have a wig in your inventory that gives you infinite ammo and allows you to not have to reload. Hint: Special Message From Otacon If you take pictures of all the girl posters, and the two locker doors that have a guy and girl on them next to each other, and upload them to Otacon instead of the photos of the Metal Gear Ray, you'll get some hilarious responses from him. Hint: Daze the Guards Even the stealthy sometimes get caught. When this happens, a blue exclamation point will appear above the guard's head. If you shoot the blue punctuation mark, you'll knock the guard out temporarily. Hint: Make Yourself Stronger Anytime you find yourself hanging from a bar or edge, you can press the R2 and L2 buttons to make the character do a pull-up. After you do 100 of them, your grip strength will be raised one level. Hint: Bathroom Problems When you're listening to the converasation between Ocelot and Solidus with your Directional Mic, press left to point the mic at the bathroom. You'll be able to listen to a very humorous scene where some guy is having problems on the toilet. Hint: Waking up Soldiers If you need to get a Dog Tag from a knocked out guard, just spray coolant on his face to wake him up and then try to hold him up. Hint: Skip Codec Text You can quickly skip through all the Codec voices and text by pressing the triangle button twice. The first will stop the voice and text and the second press will cause the rest of it to scroll through quickly. Hint: Zoom-in on Cut-Scenes Press the R1 button to zoom in on the real-time polygonal cut scenes. When holding the button down, you can move the camera around slightly with the right analog stick. Hint: Fun with Raiden During any codec sequence in the plant chapter, push L1, L2, R1, or R2 to hear Raiden say some pretty funny stuff. Hint: Get the Camera Earlier in the Game To obtain the camera without beating the game first, simply head to the distribution facility and go downstairs to find the black-and-white Zone of the Enders box. Now go back upstairs and hop onto the platform with the three lights on it. Using the box, get onto the conveyer belt. Wait through the ride, and once it brings you into the room, get off and you'll see an item box on the floor. That's the digital camera. Hint: Vulcan Raven Miniature In the entrance to the Engine Room on the tanker, Snake will come across a shadow of Vulcan Raven. It is just a toy, but if you shoot it, it will start grunting and shooting pellets until you leave the room. Hint: Find Ames Without Interruption From Guards When you get to the part where your mission is to find Ames, go to the B2 floor of the shell 1 core. After grabbing the Directional Microphone, go to the right of that room where there are 4 lockers. If you look in First Person View, you will see a Book on top of it. Punch at the locker it is on top of. After Raiden performs his spinning kick, 5 Books will fall to the floor. Grab them all, and head to B1. Watch the Guard's path. Find an open spot that he goes to, that also has no hostages nearby (such as in between the tables, or by the counter), and put one book down. He will stop and look at it, giving you a few minutes that you can use to find Ames. After a bit, the book disappears, and you can just put another one down for him. This also helps, because he won’t hear it if you ask the wrong hostage and they make noise. Hint: Get Revolver Ocelots Dogtag After you are done talking to Ames in shell 1, he will say "quick draw your AK" because without an AK , the terrorists know you are an enemy. it will give you about ten seconds to take out your AK... and Revolver Ocelot will be slowly walking toward you. Instead of drawing out the AK, take out your M9 (tranquilizer) and shoot revolver Ocelot. Then quickly run over and drag him and put him down, then his dog tage will fall out. Then get the dog tag and contact rose as soon as humanly possible. First, save your progress then return to the game. You will fail the mission but when you click "continue" and go back to the game you will have to do the whole "talk to Ames" thing again but you will still have the dog tag. Hint: Bugs in Rations In some portions of the game you'll see little sea mites on the floor. If you have to crawl through the mites they'll sometimes get on your character, and start eating your rations. If you leave them there long enough you'll lose rations--to get rid of them, open your item select menu and quickly cycle through it, going back and forth past the rations. The sea mite will be "shaken" off, saving your food. Hint: No Reinforcements On an enemy's back, his radio is attached to his belt. If you shoot it and that enemy sees you, he cannot call for reinforcements. Then you can just absolutely destroy him yourself. Hint: Kissing Booth In the Tanker board of MGS2 in the crew quarter’s hallway, there is a locker room. In side some of the lockers there are girly pictures. If you put your self in that locker, look at the picture and press R1 (zoom in button) and keep it held, Snake kisses the picture (yes there actually is a kissing sound). Hint: Blinding Your Enemy When you come up to an enemy and point your gun at him and say freeze to him, if you walk in front of him and spray coolant in his face, he will be blinded but he still will call for reinforcements. Easter Egg: Playing with Photos In the room with the lockers in the tanker (Deck-A, crew's quarters) there are 2 girly photos in the lockers. Knock on a girl's face and it you'll here a weird sound. Knock on a girl's crotch and you'll set off an alert and the attack team will come after you. ======================================= Metal Gear Solid 2 Unlockables Extreme Difficulty Mode Beat the game once and the Extreme difficulty level will be unlocked. Just as you enter, you will see a short explanation of why its hard. Its hard because of the two data projectors that change. Simply crawl under them to the other side of the area.
