Beat Down: Fists of Vengeance Xbox comments

This game gets a bad rep for some valid points but, its not really that awful.  You pick from 5 different characters and start of on a tutorial mission.  Each of the 5 have their own fighting styles that improve through out the game.  The tutorial starts you out with some of the basics.  After that its cracking skulls and robbing thugs.  The fighting system is pretty good and I enjoyed it more so than that game Urban Reign.  There is also a bit of free roaming aspects involved.  At first, you don't have a choice about the look of the character that you pick but, that will change later due to plastic surgery.  You also will be able to buy new clothes and Tattoos.  The developers tried to put an interesting aspect in the game were you have to constantly change your appearance in order to avoid police and gangsters.  This would have been cool if it weren't't for the fact that the game forces you to have to do this ALL OF THE TIME!  You could choose to ignore this and continue to fight on a regular basis but, then that gets a little repetitive at times.  Another thing you can do is have the choice to Rob, Interrogate, Recruit, or Beat to death most of your foes.  Those choices add to the variety of the game and keep you from being completely bored.  Graphically it is sub par but, that fact can be ignored by fighting fans.  The voice acting is pretty lackluster simply because of the stereotypical "street lingo" and cursing that just sounds fake.  The game's sound is typical for a standard beat em up and the music is generic to say the least. All that aside, Beat Down Fists of Vengeance is a pretty good game and would be a very good game if not for poor story and frustrating game play elements. 3 out of 5
