You must first have a shotgun, and a pistol. When you see a grunt or an elite, pull out the pistol and shoot the grunt in the chest, it will flinch and make its head very open, just shoot the head and you will kill it. For Elites, you'll need to see it at medium, or close range, shoot him with the pistol until you see his shield is almost gone, about 6 shots is good, then you just run after him shooting your shotgun, then it'll flinch when its shield is down, then melee it (B button, Red).
