Give it only running animals and chaos drives with Sonic and Shadow. Make shure to keep it in the nuteral state. Keep it away from becoming a Hero Chao or a Dark Chao.

This might be a bit long,, but I got a swimming-type chao with sonics bangs and hair. you get it by when it is an egg, you rub it with sonic, for about 5 minutes.it should come out blue, but if it doesnt then that is ok. when it hatches, you keep petting it until it gets nubs. feed it alot of hero fruit(the stuff at the store is CRAP, I find the stuff in the actual hero garden works best :)) and when it evolves, it SHOULD have sonics bangs/hair. this has around 80% chance of working! hope it works!PS: if you want your Chao to be a type like my simming/sonic type, you either give it (Otters, for swimming, Dragons or unicorns for flying, etc)

First treatit very well and if it likes you after a long time it will rencarnate, (otherwise it will die) waittill its 2nd rencarnation and give it exactly one of each animal. then give it a chao fruit.
note:on 2nd rencarnation make sure the chao is neutral.

(except be nice to it) when its age reaches 5, eventually it will go into a cacoon shaped like a chao's head.(SIMILAR to the cacoon it goes into when you get it evolves.)it will be pink if you were nice to it.(if its white, you might wanna try again with a different chao) when the cacoon fades, you should have the same chao as a baby. repeat this rebirth once more. as soon as it hatches from the second pink cacoon, give 1 of each 21 animals. wait until it evolves. it should be a chaos chao if you gave it the right amount of animals. if it isnt a chaos chao, simply wait until the 3 rebirth. then try the animal step again. EVENTUALLY you will get a chaos chao.

The trick is to use Skeleton Dogs and/or "Kappa" (known also as "Sea Dragon").

I say that you have to level up it's running, because whenever I have a lvl 99 running chao, I can never get his legs back nomatter what I tried which kind of stinks, because in chao karate if they do not have legs, they can't kick and they can only punch.

If you'd like to have a Hero Chaos Chao (Angel Chaos Chao), then here's how to.
As for first, your Chao has to have done total of 2 re-borns. When your Chao is on his 3rd life-cycle, give him every animal twice. If you'd want that it would be a Hero (/Angel) Chao, make it a Hero Chao by taking care of it as a character of Hero side (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles).

You should also hang with your Chao - pet it, feed it and such. Also, please do note that if it is a Chaos Chao, it'll never die/re-born.
When your Chao does reach the age of 5, it should turn into a cocoon.
Gray Cocoon = Your Chao will die.
Pink Cocoon = Your Chao will re-born.
