To play as thud you have to beat story mode on sick
Unlock iron man[complete easy level game] or THUD[complete the sick level game] and go down to the very end of the player list and see if they are there[note:you can only play as THUD or iron man in free skate]
If you beat TOO EASY you will get Iron man, if you beat Normal you will get both Iron man and Gene Simmons, and if you beat Sick you will unlock Iron man , Gene Simmons, and Thud the monster that eats Erick spearow. trust me I did all three levels I just need 3 more goals to be done
