Myst 3: Exile

I am in the Voltaic Age in the lava room. I am trying to turn on the fan. I am at the pedestal with the red knob and am supposed to turn it clockwise then through the center to the left and then counter clockwise and then turn on fan. I can not get it to turn clockwise, is there a trick to it? I have tried it many ways but I only get a tiny little red dot to show up where I believe the switch for the fan should be but nothing happens. Is the switch somewhere else?

A1: 
It is tricky. the trick is to click on the knob and release, move it a little up or down and click again. If is cannot turn clockwise and you're working off a cheat (not sure where you are in the sequence) your cheat might be wrong....try counter clockwise. The controller will guide you how it works by not working if it's not the right way to go.... -Answer by:Marae Page

Did you try your escape key? Each Myst series has different options. I'm playing URU now and it's down at the bottom. Sometimes you have to right click to "freeze" the screen, too. -Answer by:Marae Page
