18 Wheels Of Steel: Haulin'
After every 3 deliveris go to a hotel and u'll see driver offer
Do three loads then go to a hotel you will see somebody to hire click to hire him then get him a truck and a trailer and do a contract with one of the three company's you did the load for take the driver hired the trailer and the truck an d do the contract.
Also, there is a cheat way.You have to have a word program like notepad or wordpad. What you do is drive truck and save game. Leave 18 Wheels of Steel Haulin and go to My Documents.
Click on 18 Wheels of Steel Haulin. Click on save. Click on save 1 or is case of multiple saves select the most previos campain save you made. Click on game SII File. Scroll down till you reach cargos till next hire and type any number in. Now go to money acount. You can type in any amount you want. Dont' scroll down look down and you will see drivers: 0. Type in how ever many drivers you want. I'll give you a bouns, scroll down till you you see contracts type in the number of contracts you want. Also pick the number you want for cargos_delivered: 0 to any number you want. Now close word program and make sure you save it. Go to 18 wheels of Steel Haulin and load the saved game. Everything that you did with the word program should apply here now. Now to answer you're question, regaurdless if you did the word program or not, the way to hire a driver is this. Press N to bring up notebook select manage contracts select any companies that you appied cargos_delivered: 0

HelpfulDid you buy a trailer and did you contract him to a company? Remember, you can only contract him to a company that you transported goods for.
I had the same trouble. Once the driver is hired, go to manage contracts (if you have any available. You have to deliver a trailer to a company and they'll give you a contract.) After that hit Create Contract. Hit assign driver, then next to it assign the truck you bought for him to drive and there ya go. You don't need a trailer to buy for him. Hope this helps.
You have to have hauled a load successfully for a company. Once you have done that, hit the "n" button on your keyboard when you're in a game to pull up your noteook. Go to "Contracts", choose the company you just hauled for, then contract your driver and the truck you want them to use as well as a trailer that is compatable with the loads of that company. Then they'll do the rest.
I had the same problem... you have to go to manage contracts pick your driver and to the right and itll take you back to the contract... to the right of your driver itll say select truck thats how you assign him a truck
Contract him to a company.
I did it by completing a Job then contract him to that company

What kind of stearling wheels do you need for this game
You cant fix it. just turn on the high beems it helps alot

Turn on "advanced shader effects" in the shader selection in the configuration pop-up when you start the game.
I think its suppost to look like that because if you look at your a car when your driving in it at night you dont see your headlights on the ground but when you look a someone elses car you see the light reflecting off the ground I think this is them trying to make the game more realistic

Go to Options in the menu, then click Keyboard. There you can see and edit all the keys used in the game.
Push "N" for the in-game menu or "M" for the mini map.
And if you press M you can see the map of the game
You can also find a Map by pressing N and going to View Map which is located over the Emergency Call button

I have the momo steering wheel it works great for hualin but since I gone to 64 bit windows 7 the accelerator stay stuck on I cuz crashes

Try reinstalling or turning down your graphics
Try installing in c: drive sometimes it works when your have minimum configuration also minimize the graphics options
In the setting (Panel you get right before you start the game) go to advanced and run shader quality minimum

If this doesn't happen only this game, check if your computer needs some maintenance. Sometimes when is necessary a heavy processing "load" it heats up creating lag and/or freezing up. Cleaning the cooler may solve the problem.
When your driver gets tired, he will start to close his eyes for short periods of time. This will cause your screen to black

If you have the cash, you might want to get a video card with more memory. I have a Nvidia with 1Gb with a P4 2.8 and 1 Gb ram and it runs just fine. I paid $70 for the card on sale.

How do you hire new drivers on this game? I have several trucks and I have gone into the hotels, but how do I find drivers that are for hire? Can someone please help me? Thanks

Try diffrent hotels not all of them have drivers...the one in san fran by the golden gate always has a driver in it on my game

Make an emergency call from the note book.
it gives you some fuel till you reach a gas station.

You should make an emergency call, it cost around 1500 per call so plan your routes so this does not happen, and save money its all a part of becoming a trucker
You have to go into you notebook, bottom corner is a button saying call emergency services or something like that.

You have to go to manage contracts in notebook (after you buy a truck and trailer and delievered it). Find a Company Name with a $ beside it. After, click create contract, and assign a truck and the trailer and a driver. After, you will find a company with a number beside it (e.g.: Zabart's Food $(1). After all of that, you can check on conditions and progress of that driver with Manage Drivers, again, in notebook.

It comes with alot of other stuff, too. Just put it in My Documents/ 18 Wheels of Steel American Long Haul/Mod, if you don't want the other stuff, just open the file with 7-Zip or WinRAR, and delete everything but the file named: "map".

You can't. Those streets are there to simulate more roads that you don't ever need to be on.
Just for the purpose of adventure (otherwise there's no point, as they only decorate the mapping), drive very slow and look for openings between objects, or places where you can drive around behind them. They don't go anywhere, but sometimes it's fun to explore the many unusual places you can take your truck. Be careful not to drive off edges as you'll find yourself floating in air and have to restart the game. Otherwise, the only way would be to somehow edit the map and remove them.

Its because of your computer graphics card. I use to have a bad graphics card, but I bought a new computer cause it was old, and I got a new graphics card and it works great. (with bad graphics card my truck was always white and same with all the others cars, but with a good graphics card, they should all be different)

Another way is getting them quite close together like as if they were connected, then save your game and load it, it has worked for me every time

When ever I play Haulin the headlights don't shine on the road how can I fix this? (i have a ATI radeon 512HM video card and a Intel Pentium 4 3.00 ghz cpu)

I had the same problem with that card, bought a new NVidia card and now have headlights on the road.
I fixed my problem with not running game in High Detail, but in Medium Detail, and placed Shader at maximum, also made me possible to run the game in higher Resolution than 1280x1024.

If you have a day cab (no sleeper) you cant sleep. always on duty
Go to a hotel, or if you have a sleeper you can pull over in a parking bay and sleep I think

You have to go to a "service station" to up-grade your truck. But if you have more truck in your garage, you can go to "manage trucks" and and up-grade and fix them there.
I believe you have to be at a truck stop to purchase upgrades

Check to see if your emergency brake or jake brake is on.
Try getting out of neutral or take off parking brake, dunno it that doesn't work.
I've had this problem, and believe it or not unless you're timed, you can do this, of course it'll cost you some money, and it's one of those things I do anyways
