Q:Hey, I have no clue of how to unlock all the factions can someone please tell me! Thanks?
A1:
Find the folder for Medieval 2 on your hard drive, it should be SEGA. Open them in this order: SEGA > Medieval Total War II > data > world > maps > campaign > imperial_campaign > descr_strat.txt
WARNING: MAKE A BACK-UP OF THE descr_strat.txt OR ANY FILE BEFORE EDITING. SAVE TO DESKTOP TO AVOID RE-INSTALLING TO RECOVER THE ORIGINAL.
Open the descr_strat and there should be a section right in front of you that list the factions as "Playable" "Unlockable" and "Non-Playable." Without major modding, you can copy and paste any name into the "Playable" section and they will be available when you choose a campaign. There are also MANY MANY MANY other things that you change change/manipulate from this file, but ask for help before doing so, and make a back-up of the file to save the original.
EXCEPTION: The only factions you cannot play without modding are The Mongols, Timurids, and Aztecs.
A2:
When you are choosing what faction to be, notice how you can choose between short and long campaign. each campaign has a different goal/goals you must complete to "beat the game". if you want to get other factions quickly, you should choose the short campaign of your favorite nation. to get the other factions quickly, you should reach the goal as quickly as possible (obviously). but this means that you cant worry about your religious status, how happy your people are, or any random missions that lead you away from your main goal.
A3:
To unlock all the factions you must win the long version of the campaign with one of the 5 basic factions... after you are victorius then you can go back and do another campaign with any of the other factions (exceptions of mongol, timurid, aztec, and papal states of course)
A4:
actualy all you have to do is the short verson of the grand campain ps go saint jimmy and the forty thiefs
Q:I had a ship that was down to about 10 troops or so and "docked" at port. On the ship, I had an army waiting to be moved to shore (but forgot about). I had decided to disband the ship and the next thing I know there's a rebel army sitting in the ocean (at the port) that can't be attacked. How do I get rid of this army because it's having the same negative effect as if a rebel army is camping your town. lol, please help, this is really annoying :D?
A1:
Try creating a rebel ship on top of the army maybe?
Q:Is it posible to get my faction heirs to fight on foot in a campaign?
A1:
Unfortunately no. the general and his bodyguard will always be on horseback.
you may be replying to the caption describing Scotland's unit types. it says something like: Scottish royalty are known to fight as infantry. this is only referring to the Highland Nobles unit that is available to the Scottish.in my opinion, it would have been more realistic if some of the generals fought on foot, considering many generals did so in medieval times (ie William Wallace)
A2:
It sounds as though your a heavy infantry lover like me well no but heres a nasty trick get 15 units of heavy inf and 5 units of hevy cav includin a general place the inf as in a line opposite your opponent then place the cavalry a way off to the flank in sum trees so he cant see um leave the genral out with your inf coz he cant hide
now as the enemy advances engage um with your heavy infantry this should tie up all their units now you remember those 4 cavalry units send um out behind the enemy and if he s left his general out of the fight kill him if he hasnt charge in at the exact spot were the genral is with the enemy general dead or even better captured the nemy will rout straight through 4 units of heavy cav
this is vunerable to missle fire but you could always add sum light cav
Q:Hi guys...i can't type quotation marks in the console cuz it's the same button to open it (')...so when I type it (shift + ') the console closes! can anyone help me?
thanks
A1:
I type all my codes without quotation marks and they work just fine. Here's some examples:
give_trait Rufus GoodCommander 5
process_cq London
auto_win attacker
remove_ancillary Agnes secret_love
give_trait this HighPersonalSecurity 3
add_money 40000
add_population Cairo 4000
All those codes work, and without quotes. See if you can get them to work for you.
You cannot change the faction heir in Medieval 2: Total War. Each faction operates as a monarchy, therefore, it is typically passed down by bloodline. The oldest son of your current faction leader is typically the heir. However, I have found that I can "help" a character be made the heir by adding to his stats (Command, Piety, Authority, Loyalty, and Chivalry/Dread). When 2 bloodline members are vying for the "heir" role, the one with better stats typically gets it.
A2:
Kill the current heir on a suicide mission or get him sunk in a boat and then it will pick a new one for you
Q:Is there a way to make your armies invincible, if not how does the automatic win cheat work?
A1:
Go to the cheat screen and type in auto_win attacker or auto_win defender depending on which side you are playing as. P.S. if you are marching and get ambushed you are instead the defender
They cannot be accessed in the Grand Campaign on Medieval II. However you can unlock them by editing the descr_strat.txt file, although this makes the game rather unstable and prone to crashes, and it is therefore best not to try it.
The only other option is to buy the 'Kingdoms' Expansion, which allows you to play as the Aztecs and other native American peoples in the Americas campaign.
A4:
Use the Kingdoms exspansion. The cheat doesnt work and will destroy your game. Thats what happened to me
A5:
I found a way to play as the aztecs and the rebels wich I think is really cool and it hasnt effected my game yet but its hard to explain how to do it
A6:
I keep trying the dscr strat thing and it wont work, it makes me rename the file and all that.
A7:
Simple - change the file from 'read only' to 'write enabled'
Q:I don't get the move character cheat can someone show me?
A1:
U have to download the patch. And if it doesnt work then the cheat isnt real. Just go to a good website ign.com to find a example
A2:
Well the cheat does work I use it alot, the syntax is move_character "Character Name" x, y
So for Character Name enter the name of the General, Captain, Agent you wish to move without any titles, So Prince Rufus for example is "Rufus" however do include surnames.
Next you need the X and Y Co-ordinates since you obviously don't know these you have should move your mouse over the area you want to move to and type in the cheat: show_cursorstat
You will recieve something like Bruges Region 70: X: 170 Y:82. Then just insert these co-ord's into the move_character cheat.
So the result of the above is move_character "Rufus" 170, 82
Q:Is there any cheat that makes you allow play a campaign with any faction? Answer the question as quickly as you can please.
A1:
No there is no such cheat
A2:
Find SEGA file>Medieval II Total War>Data>World>Maps>Campaign>Imperial_Campaign>descr_strat (please save this file before editing) copy the names from Unlockable and paste them into playable, delete the teams from unlockable and then save, now you can play with all the factions (note you cannot put unplayerble teams and play with them)
Q:I press~ and it works, but when I put in the cheats, it doesn't seem to work. Whta should I do?
A1:
Use or try the @ key next to the ~ key. English Qwerty keyboard
A2:
You need to wait until the screen that gives your odds and sizes up yours and your enemy's forces comes up. Then add the code "auto_win defender" or "auto_win attacker"
A3:
Start with somethig easy enter (add_money 40000) then press enter but dont type in the () just the words and the _ this will give you $40000 to save time buy typing it in over and over press the up key after you hit enter and it will apper agen this works with all codes
A4:
If using the "Money" cheat, make sure you are doing this exactly:
add_money ####
the # is the ammount of Dinari you want.
If using the "give_trait" and "give_ancillary" codes, then make sure its like this:
