You need to trade with Locke to get 2 torches so you can have a light source to keep the black smoke from getting you. Then just walk towards the lighted areas of the cave.
Or you could trade with that one guy before the cave. And make sure you trade 2 torches because there's another torch in the cave.
Also you can buy the oil lamp from Sawyer on the beach. He also sells replacement oil. You can take the oil lamp through water. Don't worry about Money. Once you get to the hatch you will load up on tradable goods. KM
