I'm on the main island. I went to the wooden building, opened the safe, lit the match, started the furnace and then went down the elevator. Question: how do you get back up the elevator?

A1:
If you mean the tree elevator, you don't come back down the same one. you enter the age, find new elevators and stairways which lead you to the book, then that brings you back.
