It works on a kill/death ratio.killing people of a higher lv more experience will be rewarded but if a lower lv player kills you it works the same against you. To gain higher lvs kill higher lv players and keep your death rate low. Also survival mode holds a way of gaining lvs by ranking high. Note lving is hard to get even at lv 0 keeping a kill ratio of 2/1 deaths on players 2-3 lvs higher gets a lv within 6-8hours play.
