The Sims 3
I'm pretty sure it means that the action clashes with one of their traits. They can still do it, it's just characteristic of their personality. Like when you have a loner sim, there are verbotens over introduction because a loner sim wouldn't want to introduce themselves.

Use the code 'testingcheatsenabled true' once it is activated, click and drag the motive bars to fill them. This also works for the relationship bars. To my knowledge, there are no codes to lock the motives/needs in place, so you'll have to just continue clicking and dragging.

After typing in testingcheatsenabled on you can click on each motive bar and drag it to either max the motive or reduce it. also, you can change your sims traits if you want by holding shift and clicking on your sim.
After you type testingcheatsenabled true, shift click on the mailbox and click "Make Motives/Needs Static". Cant remember which one it is, but its a pie menu option, so no matter! :D

If you fulfill you pregnant mother's wishes and wants, then you probably will be able to pick your kid's trait. And yes, sometimes they are based off his/her parents
Traits are based on parents but after baby stage if you raise them well you can pick certain things.
If your pregnant sim has a full green bar it will allow you to pick one trait while the other is a positive trait which may or may not be from the parents. (my one baby sim got a good trait while neither parent had it)
Get your pregnant sim and hunsband sim to read baby books... I did this and I could choose both traits for the baby sims.
Child sims usually have two traits: "easily amused" and "friendly"

My Sim is in the law enforcement career track and I need to question people. Every time I try they tell me I'm boring and I get nothing. Any ideas on how to actually question someone and get some answers?

Yes. be friends with them. Also having the charismatic trait helps. So try to chat and joke with the sim before questioning.
You need to have a high level of friendship with them before you can question them
I got the same thing! I found it much easier to start clicking on neighbour's garbage cans and "rummaging" (not every can will have this option, but if you click on a can you are reasonably likely to get the "rummage" option.) It's messy and you have to shower afterwards (AND look for trash piles in your inventory! I had the "smelly disgusting" frowny face for days before I figured that out.) Anyway, after a little rummaging, your Law Enforcement Sim will have enough dirt (literally and figuratively) on a neighbour to write a good report.
I also noticed that the reports will be better if you wait until your Sim is in a good mood to write it.

When creating your sim make them have triats that make them sociable. My sim has a good sense of humor and is also friendly. I am not 100%, but check in the lifetime to see if there is something there to enhance the traits.
Same I made a sim and after playing all day (and Skill cheats) I got to international super spy, and it said to go raid a warehouse, and I dont know what to do.And I dont know how to question either(i had to use cheats to skip some hard jobs)
I had this problem at first with my journalist who needed to do interviews, and I bought him the Never Dull lifetime reward, now he gets all the interviews he tries for. And to the person who has to raid a warehouse, I'd guess that would be the Criminal Career place, Upstanding Citizens Corp or whatever it's called.
I had the same problem to begin with until I did the same as answer 3. Rummaging through the garbage is alot more profitable.. But beware, when my sim had got the required dirt, often if I did an action between finding the 'dirt' and actually writing the report on the computer the option had dissapeared... So try and make sure you do as less as possible between finding and actually doing it. I'm not sure but I think it may have been because he was promoted? or maybe just the fact that he went to work inbetween... but either way, be careful and write them as soon as you can. P.S - Having a higher writing skill point means your reports come out better as well as having a higher mood.
Try other interactions first instead of jumping into questions. Try 'Tell Funny Story' or something first.

There is also an option to 'turn aging off' - This is able to change at any time during your play so if you want to make sure your Sim has a high level career before becoming a pensioner (which often happened in Sims 2) it is possible to slowly level up... and then change back to real-life aging.

I believe each birthday goes up a number, starting at one. So if you want a toddler it is one, a child two, teenager three and so on. I am not entirely sure though.
Yeah you can do aging off in the menu b4 you start gameplay.... I think the set age cheat will work if you say " set age young adult(ect.) "
My computer wont let me mark anything on aging in the options category what do I do?
I tried going into option, then game options. It won't let me click on the aging button at all.
You have to do it when you're playing the game. Go into a household, and then click options>gameplay. If you click it then, it will work for all households.
That happened to me to. Try doing it while your game is playing. It didn't work for me because I was trying to do it on the first menu screen but this should fix that.

Well, if you want to girls, then eat two watermelons, but if you want two boys, eat to apples and then you will have two babies. if you want a boy and a girl, eat one watermelon, and one apple
To increase the chances of getting multiple babies, listen to the kids channle on the radio and watch the kids channle on TV. Doing both at the same time will really increase your chances. Or you could buy the Fertility Treatment reward. Reading both pregnancy books also increases the chances. Eat 3 watermelon for a girl, and 3 apples for a boy.
Maybe you can call the babysitter again

You can type Ctrl+Shift+C then type "resetsim" then the babys name it should return the baby to its rightful home.
Just hit the menu button and click on main menu and don't save it and just start over from the last time you played
If the babys picture is there ...double click on the baby .. it will most likely show you where the baby is .. prolly in the baby sitters home , all you have to do is highlight your mom or dad sim and click on the baby and select hold or pick up or what ever options it gives u, something simular happend to me ,

You can always try to friends with the sitter by calling the sitter and then go on the map and look up to see where the sitter is and probably the baby will be where the sitter is.
Do testingcheatsenabled true in the cheats and got to the babysitters house where the baby should be and hld shift and click the baby then click add to active family
That happened to me also, is the baby still in your family relations? if it is then go to the edit town, split household and take the baby to a different household, then put on the testingcheatsenabled cheat and steal it back by going to the house you put it in and holding shift and clicking on it also you have to have an adult/young adult with the baby, so swap it in with another family and put your's back together:)

Either there is a glitch in your game, or your sim really wants a baby or something.

She probably has the "Family-oriented" trait and wants a baby really bad. You can adopt or "Try for Baby" with any Sim she has a mutual romantic interest with.

Had this happen to me except my sim kept sitting down and "doing" homework every few seconds even as a young adult... Ctrl + shift + c then "resetsim (first name) (last name)" worked for me
Type ctrl+shift+c and write moveobjects than drag your sim into the family inventory and it will show up standing normal near an object.

Baby's are swaddled in little pink or blue blanket things,(colour depends on gender) but toddlers have clothes.

When they are first born and leaving the hospital they are in a pink or blue blanket, depending on their gender. But, once their grown they do wear clothes. :)
Babies can't wear clothes but if you go to create a style you can change the color of the blanket.
Well if you go to setting there will be a thing where it says fade when zoomed in it shouldent be tht way thts y your having tht problume cause the hair fades when yuo zoom in
When they are toddlers they can have clothes, just click on your dresser and select plan outfit, or you can go to the mirror and choose change look
The cheats that are activated by typing 'testingcheatsenabled true' are not themselves used by typing in text. You have to SHIFT and simultaneously left click your SIM, and you will get an option to 'modify traits'. Other things to try SHIFT/click on are their mailbox, their workplace, the ground, and non-household SIMS.

Make sure you spell everything correctly, and capitalize in the right places. to get the cheats to work.
Okay, say you want to use modify traits... Just type in the 'testingcheatsneabled true' and then while pressing the shift-key, left-click the sim/maILbox, a pie menu will appear and there should be 'modify traits' there, so you don't have to type 'modify traits'

You actually have to put testingCheatsenabled because I had the same problem but now it works
These cheats are not like normal cheats. They cannot simply be typed into the CTRL+ SHIFT+ C menu. What you must do is type "testingcheatsenabled" or "testingcheatsenabled true" one of the two will work. After doing this, SHIFT+ left click on a Sim or their mailbox. You will then be able to pick the cheats from a pie menu. You may notice that in the Sims 3 Strategy Guide these cheats are located under "Mailbox." This is because they are enabled by SHIFT+ left-clicking the mailbox. Make more sense now? ^.^
This is correct, it appears the list on the previous page is from the Sims 2 [I could be wrong on that part, but it does look that way], most of the commands listed there don't work in the Sims 3 - we still need to find the correct syntax (if it exists) - for example, I'm still looking for the command to lower a Sims age as there is no set or setage command and yes testingcheatsenabled is set to true and they still don't work
You do Ctrl-Shift-C. Then you type in testingCheatsenabled true. Then you hold down the shift key and click your sim. Then you will have the option to modify your sim's traits. I have done this before and it has worked. Hope this helps.

No there isn't but if you have one family living and the next family keeps living you should make them friends so you can monitor what they are doing.
Actually there is, I was reading something in an artical that Ben Bell wrote and it said there is a button in the neighbourhood where you can freeze the ever-living neighbourhood so you can play with one family without worrying about the rest! :)
While you can't really freeze the neighborhood, you can't toggle story mode off. This will keep the other sims in your neighborhood doing things like moving, getting married, or having kids. They'll still go to work, wander the town, and make friends.

Also, you can go to the Bookstore and buy new recipes for your Sim to read and learn to make. Recipes use ingredients that you can buy at the grocery store, grow in the garden, or fish for. You can also buy ingredients direct from the fridge at an inflated cost.

Yes you just have to have him/her as a girlfriend/boyfriend and do more things such as kissing and stuff and eventually it will come up in romantic.
It takes a lots of "Romantic..." interactions to get "Go Steady" then "Propose" to become an option, I think when they get past thinking the person is being "flirty" or "very alluring" on to "irresistible". Once your Sims are engaged they can have a Private Wedding or throw a Wedding Party to get married.
I find that to be a real struggle for me too. I don't believe that you can... but you might want to try "motherlode" when you haven't moved your family in, and see if anything happens to your money. Hope this helps.

What I do is buy a lot with no house or nothing on it, because it's cheap. Then type Shift + Ctrl + C and type Motherlode a lot and get all the money I want.. then I click on my cell phone and click move. then I move me to a house thats for sale because i'll have the money I need now.

If you use the cheat freeRealEstate any house is affordable. Once loaded, you can use the motherlode cheat to get enough cash to furnish it.
I've tried the family funds many times, and it does not work for me. i've also tried the motherlode cheat in "edit town" and it doesn't work. I like to make new families, without making them my new active household, and there are very little houses that new families can afford. I hope the "freerealestate" cheat will work.
The sports stadium
I am a rockstar, and I like to have concerts at the sports dome. (so yes, you can have concerts at other places) I think that the sports dome and the theater are the only two places though.

I had the same issue too! You don't have to buy clothes like you did in the Sims 2. All you have to do is click on the dresser and choose Plan Outfit. It takes you to the create a Sim page and you can change your outfit. (Same goes with hair and makeup..click a mirror and choose Edit Appearance.)
Click the dressers and then click on "Plan clothes" you will be transfered to CAS
OK calm down the folding clothes at the spa probably means the robes the customers wear or the towels, to get new clothes simply buy a dresser click on it and press plan outfit then you can get new clothes. its like getting a new hair style on sims 2
You get clothes in the game for free, why would you want to go out shopping for them? You can have up to three outfits for each thing (3 everyday outfits, 3 formal outfits, 3swimwear ect.) Just go to a wardrobe/dresser and click plan outfit.
The guide said you could have 3 outfits for each clothing category. Then it says you must own a dresser so I think you just click on the dresser or when you create the sim select your three outfits.
You don't buy clothing anymore. It is all free and in your dresser. When you click on the dresser, two options should come up: Change Outfit and Plan Outfit. If you click Plan Outfit, you will go back into CAS and can choose any outfit you want.
If you click on the dresser it will say plan outfit, it will load on to create a sim and it will have all the clothes there.

Just buy a piece of cheese or an egg and plant them

You get the skill to plant them from completing the planting opportunities. Once you complete that you cant just buy the cheese and meat and plant them

To plant these there are different gardening oppurtunites that must be completed.
You can always buy the egg and cheeses from the store and plant them because my sim (Mitch) had a chance to learn how to plant eggs and cheeses help by the local resturant around the garden skill of 6, 7, 8.

My Sims wants to go Jogging but I don't know how. Every time I select some where it just jog to that spot. Does any one know how to get them to go jogging/?

That is how you jog. I normally have my sim jog to a spot far away
In Sims2 you clicked the sim and click Go Jogging it only worked between certain times if I remember correctly, not sure if it applies here though but my guess would be it does as they haven't tampered with the normal sim control. -Answer by:Asunthor
Jogging in Sims 3 is different from Sims 2.
To go jogging you must click on any spot you want and then choose "jog here"

You have to gain an athletic skill point before you can jog

Over time you get fatter
Yes, because my person ate almost all the time. Even when she wasnt hungry. And she became bigger. Also, a little box popped up and said that was the reason why. Hope this helps.
If you eat longer than when your sim is hungery you get a moodlet saying your sim ate too much. It is neither positive nor negative, but warns you about weight gain.
You have to catch a death fish in the graveyard and plant a life seed. then do something with that and eat ambrosia
Are you serious? I've never heared of this fish & seed, only "Flower of Death" or something.. What's the bait for that fish, and where do you get a Life Seed? What do you mean by "Do something"? You need to take the ashes (urn) to the science lab, I think
Sadly, death is final, but if you are a level 10 cooking skill you can feed ambrosia to a ghost and it may resurect. I haven't tried it yet. The unlucky sims may die a few times. The grim reaper finds it funny and resurects him/her.
You will be offered an opportunity from the science lab, at which point you will have to bring your loved ones ashes to the science lab, when I did this it only partially worked so my loved one remained in ghost form but I could now control her, giving me a ghost for a fiance who lives in the same house as myself and my new wife....
I was told to put the grave stone in your inventory and bring it to the science lab and there will be an option to have them bring them back to life, but I haven't gotten that option yet... -Answer by:loiamve
Protection From Death
Go to Pleasant Rest Graveyard, and near the gate, there is a strange bush called a "Death Flower Bush" - Harvest the flower from it.
If you keep this flower in your sim's inventory, when you die the grim reaper will trade it for a second chance at life.
This flower will not reappear, but there are Unknown Special Seeds (requires level 7 Gardening to plant) dotted about near the graveyard (and a few other places) which may grow another Death Flower (and sometimes more if your Sim has the Green Thumb trait to revive the plant.)
Go to Pleasant Rest Graveyard, and near the gate, there is a strange bush called a "Death Flower Bush" - Harvest the flower from it.
If you keep this flower in your sim's inventory, when you die the grim reaper will trade it for a second chance at life.
This flower will not reappear, but there are Unknown Special Seeds (requires level 7 Gardening to plant) dotted about near the graveyard (and a few other places) which may grow another Death Flower (and sometimes more if your Sim has the Green Thumb trait to revive the plant.)
You bring the ashes to the graveyard and you will get a phone call from the science lab to do an experiment. ) hope that helps,

If your sim has the cooking skill to level 10, you can buy the book "Ambrosia" in the bookstore. Once your sim learns how to make it, catch a deathfish which is only found at the graveyard at night (its bait is Angelfish and you must have a skill of level 10 to get deathfish) then plant a life seed (again, level 10 gardening skill) and mix those together and you get Ambrosia. Feed Ambrosia to a ghost and they MIGHT resurrect.

Well, I dont know about bringing them back to life, but if you pick a flower from the plant near the entrance to the graveyard and keep it in your inventory, you can be saved from death.

Certain places you just can't see inside, especially workplaces. If your sim is at work, they apparently actually get a bathroom break at some point (glad they finally fixed this! Used to be your sim would be in a pad mood all day at work if they left there needing to pee... now they apprently get a chance to take care of this at work) so don't worry about it. Otherwise, take care of it before you leave! A lot of parks have a bathroom somewhere if you don't want to have to go home to use the bathroom... if a park is closer than your home, you can go there.
Not sure what happens but mine does that from time to time. Mine usually comes back after I shut Sims down and restart. I always thought it was just me. Try that and see if it works for you.
She could have died. my sim died while I wasn't playing apparently because he now comes back as a ghost and still shows up under my other sim's relationships.
The reason you can't do this is that you can only have one active family at a time. If you choose a new family (in "edit town"), you will get a message saying that if you choose to change the active family, the last family that you played with will lose all of their skills, but will continue to age normally. If you decide to go back to them, you will have to start basically from scratch.

Im always switching from family to family but the skills remain the same... Its the 'wants' and 'moodlets' that disappear. I do find it hard finding families though, maybe they've taken it upon themselves to get married and move into another household? Ive never had a family member disappear but ive had them have random fatherless children? Weird! They also continue normal life with things such as promotions, and I did read they could make their own relationships (The Sims 3 website)
If you were playing with another sim family, and that sim had died while playing with that family, the sim would be dead when you went to that family
You have to go to options and uncheck the story progression. That will allow you to switch from family to family and it wont change anything. If you want to get her back just invite her over and talk to her until the option of moving in appears.

When you change the active household, the others keep playing by themselves. The sim could have moved out on its own, or died. To change this, you can go to Options and turn of the story progression. That way your houses will only play will you are playing with them

Eating apples increases the chance of having a boy. Watermelons are for girls.
The gender of the baby is totally random. If you want a specific gender, I'd suggest saving while your sim is pregnant, and if she gives birth to the gender you don't want, just go back to the previous save and try again.

You have to break up with your current girlfriend/boyfriend before you can get a new one. The game only lets you have one at a time.
Ctrl + shift +c enter "testingcheatsenabled on" shift + click on your sim, select "modify sim's traits" and change their traits to either good kisser, hopeless romantic, or flirty and it'll make other sims fall for your sim faster. i'm up to five partners for my sim. it takes longer since you already have a partner, but keep flirting and selecting 'confess attraction' until it gives you the option to date.
The heatrbreaker lifetime achievement? Your sim has to continuously have new relationshhips, then break-up. I don't think you can have more than one at a time, but you can have romance with as many as you'd like.
The idea is to break up with the first girlfriend before getting a second one.

I think the easiest lifetime achievement is the 'swimming in cash.' as soon as the game begins, hold CTRL+SHIFT+C for the cheat box then type in motherlode. Tadaa, fifty thousand simoleons and your lifetime wish completed! :)
It helps to have the trait of "flirty". I have had a married sims have many relationships that had this trait. She flirts her way into WooHoo. It sounds like a glitch, it may be your video card isn't quite up to snuff with the game. Check out the game requirements and make sure your computer is compatible. If it is then it's probably just the game.

I have a list of the Sims2 Cheat codes but after I turn on testingcheatsenabled true and type in a cheat such as shazaam it says unknown command--shazaam, and same with snapOpjectsToAngle, is get unknown command.. snap. the kaching and motherlode codes however work find but most of them give me the "unknown command" message. what am I doing wrong?

What I did is just stopped teaching my toddlers how to talk when they become children they still know how to talk like a regular kid
The reset sim (firstname) (lastname) works but no matter what you do do not try to save. It will freeze your computer and you will lose all progress for that family.
This happens alot to me when I tried teaching the toddlers how to talk and what I do is just click one of the other people that arent frozen (if there is anyone else) and have them move the whole family out to a new house and it will unfreeze and the sims will be active again.

Get a birthday for the toddler, and it will be a child! (if it works.)

I found that if you start breeding as soon as they get young adults you can breed twice and twice again as adult, having done that myself I am now on my 7th generation

Small parts from numerous expansion packs are included in the base game of the sims 3, however it is pretty clear that there will be expansion packs, especially since most community lots (including the hospital) are places that cannot be entered so you cannot even witness your sim having a baby unless she or he is at home

You would not need a cheat to turn aging off. since your sims would be aging along with all the other sims of sunset valley, EA games placed a check box for enabling aging in the options menu. so if ever you would not want your sims in sims 3 to age, just go to options and deselect the enable aging section.

On the sims 2 if you have enough aspiration points you can buy something called the elixir of life. you can only use it if your aspiration is above gold. it makes you 3 days younger. if it is used under gold aspiration 3 days are taken from your life.
