Wow. every time I get the warrior dude off the edge and you have to keep pressing square to kill him, my fingers cant move fast enough to get him! is there a easier way? help me out?

I have enough seeds for another power and elika guides me to the door 0f the temple which is covered in black stuff as I walk thru it I sink and she pulls me out if I asked the way she sends me sometimes left sometimes right but cant get thru black stuff.?
