Yea, you can hear the ambient conversations of players on either team as well as footsteps, provided they are in earshot of you. and dont forget they can hear you also..so kids in the room talking, a vacuum cleaner going while you play may give your position away...so hit the mute buttton on your headset to keep that from happening...good luck

Kill other people.
Plant bombs extract hostages and capture control points your confrontation ration goes up by your kill deat ratio
1ST to rank you must either be invited to a clan or create your own clan. Once in a clan ranking is a kill death ratio scoring. Also as medals are earned for panting bombs,saving hostages and kills accumulated by the weapon classes that include Assault Rifles, Sub Machine Guns, Machine Guns and Sniper Rifles. IF YOU EVER CHANGE CLANS OR QUIT A CLAN YOU RANKING WILL RESET TO "1".
Socom confrontation has absolutely nothing to do with kills/deaths/plants/defuses. im 100/10 rating/ranking... the only thing that improves or hinders rank is Wins and losses. you can be 1:15 KD ratio and still have a 100/10 rank.
