OK, I am stuck on the very first level. Trying to get the guns from the prostitute. I go to the back outside the saloon and try to stack the boxes to get into the window but no luck.?

At the beginning of the game when you must use the cannon to prevent the enemy from entering the trenches, I am unable to wipe them out in time and the mission fails. Is there a special technique? Thanks.
