Stnding in front of the gate to the bamboo forest & pushing the x button repeatedly isn't opening the gate. what am I doing wrong or did I miss getting something that I need?

Hold the X button & shake controller like craazy

All you have to do is hit start....go to options....then take the motion sensor off the controls. then you wont have to shake anything. you will just see the X to push when opening the door.

Have you found the one on the island with a couple of flowers, in the river round the dojo?

The ghosts' in the graveyard? I just avoided them until I found the shrine and the flower. The spell you get will help you out A LOT.

INSIDE the graveyard Souls will try to take your health and stamina, so if you can get to avoid them across the graveyard lies a shrine in a cave that the Lost Souls will not follow you into. Exit the shrine. There will be a cabin on the left. Go inside and get the anemone. Go back to the shrine and press X. They will give you a spell that destroys the ghosts.

In answer to the first response POST YOUR OWN QUESTION. as to the one who actually asked the question you have to hold x and shake the controller.

Basically, you do not have to find the Anemone flowers in the game. ( But you must have the Meteor Shower spell in the final level though) You probably have the Detect Kuji Shrine spell in your inventory. Assign that spell, use it and some butterflies will fly into the direction the Anemone flowers are. Just keep using that spell and keep your eyes on the butterflies at all times. Then, you will probably be in some secret quiet place. The Anemone flower will be there! Nearby will be the place where you place the Anemone flower and you will have a new spell added in your inventory. It does take some time to find the spell you need, but I wish you luck! ( I needed to go through about 6 levels to find the spell I needed).

^A1 is right about how to find the flowers and shrines. But even though some the spells are not as important as Sunbeam or Meteor Shower, that doesn't mean you can't use them against the annoying smaller ninjas.

If you mean the large ones with enormous spears, ( There is a bronze trophy for defeating one), then you change your ninja to Futo, and keep doing attacks. It will eventually show you a button command and after a few more hits, job done!

I never went right but I guess it doesn't matter. Yes, you fall into the giant canyon/crack but you just got to maneuver through it and pretty much use boost constantly. After you get past it, just make sure you don't run into anything and just go with the flow.

In most of the levels, you are able to search for a shrine that will give you a scroll with a spell. The Slow Time scroll is in one of the later levels. But that doesn't mean the other spells aren't good for something. Look at your inventory. You probably already have the spell to help you with your problem.

You're technically not able to catch. The purpose of the Koi is to pull you past turbulent water.

With L1 choose the fish cather then go next to koi hold R2 and catch him

The fish usually ends up where you originally found it. Right in the clear of the pound. Once you catch it you have to steer around and avoid the objects it tries to pull you into. Once you're able to avoid most of the objects the Koi fish will pull you through the temple door.
If he drags you through the door splitting the currents and then it goes away you dont have to go back
When you lose him you can find him in his first plase

try to avoid it, go left, then when there is nowhere to go , jump right, add some boost aswell, and you will probably land on this tall piece of mountain. Jump forward, then just you need to kind of do the next bit yourself. For me, it worked when I fell into the crack, keep going right with added boost and just kind of battle the blizzard and try to find a way out. After that it's the same as the other strategy.
