When you walk in through the library door, the alarm will obviously go off. If you click tiwice to go forward, then turn to the right, zoom into the alarm keypad and put the code in. then the alarm will be off.

If you did it right, it should open up and you can get the journal. this one if very tricky...so be sure you do it right, and if you do it will automatically open.

You have to get closer, maybe turn around and try again.

First of all, you need to make sure you have done all of the following things.(not specifically in this order) 1. Read the books "True Stories Behind Famous American Portraits" and "Purple Hearted Queen" from the library. 2. Gave the journal to Hotchkiss and ask her to translate it. 3. Look through the peephole with all three medallions. 4. Read the translated journal and the decoder. 5. Make sure the medallions are placed in the right space on the tower floor. 6. Get the spear tip from the knight. After you do all this, you should be able to go to the portrait. (make sure that you look through the peephole with all three medallions, and then look at the decoder. But, if you did it it the opposite order, that's okay, just re-do both steps.)

You have to walk around the room till you get close enough. Then it should let you click on the tiles around the purple rose.
Before you do that.
Next to the gate that leads into the tower.
There is a knight. Click on that and take the arrow on top of his sword.
That will help you pull the tiles off.

After you solved the secret compartment puzzle, show Hotchkiss the diary and get her to translate it for you. Set your alarm so that a day passes and go to her room when she's in the lounge. Go to her typewriter and mouse over the top left corner of her desk. Click when your magnifying glass turns red and it shows Marie Antoinette's secret code decoder for symbols that you saw in the "peep hole" with each of your medallions. Nancy will talk about a purple rose. Then you can go to the tower and walk to the picture of Marie.

First you have to go into proffesers room and read the note to the top left of the typewriter then you can go up to the tower and get the flower off of the picture!! have fun!!

Inside your room they give you a password and a locker number ...you'll find the paper w/ your locker number in your room inside your desk that should help out.
