You can't. I don't know where you heard you could, but you can't. Other characters that can't be unlocked or battled are, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, King Dee Dee, Ash, Professor Oak, and Flippy.

Do adenture mode with any character in any dificulty level,but you have to finish the first race in any time,butit has to have an 2 in it.Example:x.x2.xx.
